On a related note, the ratings for the Pac 12 championship game were far below the other P7 schools. Note the AAC's TV ratings which were stronger than the Big East as well.

Big 12 Championship 2.852 M
SEC Championship 2.553 M
AAC Championship game 2.091 M
MWC Championship game 1.587 M

I should hope so, running unopposed on CBS on Selection Sunday.

If the AAC is as bad as people say on this board CBS would have aired something else instead.

But the AAC ratings were better for the AAC semi-finals on Saturday as well....one semi doubled the Pac Championship game....the other almost tripled the Pac12 Championship number....and I think we all know there was plenty of competition on Saturday. Some network is going to get a pretty nice bang for he buck media property in 2020.

It's an illustration of the power of the established basketball network. Fox is not known for college basketball. CBS is.

Both games were on over-the-air TV, but CBS had been showing college hoops all day, giving it a lead-in.

More casual fans go to ESPN or CBS for college basketball. A person has to be a committed Big East fan to find their games on Fox. A person running a TV in a bar or restaurant is more likely to park their TV on ESPN or CBS than Fox during basketball season.

The same thing happens in college football. Games on ESPN networks generally outrate games on Fox networks.

In the meantime, Fox has given the Big East a great financial deal. They'll take the money and run.

They're in deep doo-doo.

These things tend to run in cycles. We've seen it in this decade with B1G football and SEC basketball. What the B1G and SEC had were successful TV networks, which gave them the income needed to fund coaching hires and facility improvements. Those, in turn, resulted in an improved product.

For TV, the Pac is already handicapped by the time difference. Their issues with their TV network are glaring. It has not generated the needed revenue relative to the other power conferences. The Pac needs to improve its TV situation so it can improve its on-field/court product in the two major revenue sports.

BTN, SECN = successful. P12N = not so much.

RE: Pac 12 blues
The typical jab at the Big East. Shocker!

Considering they play in a nonESPN network, having 1.5 million people watch the final is remarkable. As for the Pac-12, they’ll always struggle in getting casual viewers outside the West Coast. Even in their footprint, they compete against different entertainment options in an area known for its outdoor activities. Unless half of the schools alumni and fan base move to the East Coast, not much will change on their end.

This.

It will be interesting to see what the ratings will be for the AAC if they move away from ESPN. We know CBS won't give them many games in football, and the Big 10 is taking back their basketball slots next year.

NBC makes the most sense to me. Thats an OTA Network than could give the AAC some nice saturday slots while using NBC-Sports to show most of the games.

My guess is you'll see the AAC split between ESPN and NBC (about 25 games each). Then CBS-Sports (too cheap to win a bidding war), ESPN-Plus, or a streamer will grab the scraps.

Yeah yeah yeah, people have been talking about NBC for years. I'll believe it when I see it.
