When he finally retires, he can write his book (I Did It My Way) and hit the lecture circuit--- where the courses are green all the time.

Chuck Stobart?

I went to all those stobart games. I don’t miss him. Did he ever do anything else? Our record did get worse under Rip, no doubt.

But stobart had amazing amounts of talent he wasted on the offensive side of the ball by running 3 times and punting.

Charlie Bailey I don’t remember.

Charlie Bailey beat Florida. Got caught with knowledge of player getting over paid at a summer job. I think we fired him too quick. Seeing what goes on now, should have kept him.

We should not have fired Larry Finch. We should have promoted him.

Batting a thousand is an expression. Lord have mercy the mathematical police have descended. I guess you’d prefer I express it 1.000?

How often do you see batting averages expressed to 4 decimal places?

One is hitting every ball.

The other is hitting one out of ten.

Hitting the ball and getting a hit are not the same.

RE: Has Memphis ever regretted firing a coach?
Sometimes it is abundendtly clear that something is amiss. The reasons can vary and ultimately do not matter. Clearly there is something amiss with the Tubby and Memphis relationship and has been from the very start. He simply is not a good fit for Memphis and Memphis is not a good fit for him. No amount of time is ever going to change that so there is simply no reason to prolong this. Even if Tubby goes on and wins somewhere else, it is never going to happen with him in Memphis.

We should’ve handled Finch better so he could’ve gotten the recognition he deserved but his health wouldn’t let him do the job any more.

So, anybody trying to paint us as ridiculous nationally, locally, or on this board should take into account that we’ve always made good decisions and the fan base has always been in general agreement with those decisions. we’re batting 1.000 unlike say UTK or Ole Miss or any other surrounding schools.

Edited to correct decimal place so as to not confuse those that something like that would confuse.

Not until now.

Good grief, does nobody remember our history? We damned sure regretted running off Gene Bartow because our idiotic AD at the time wouldn't give him a tiny raise the year after our National Championship game.

RE: Has Memphis ever regretted firing a coach?
Great question, unfortunately the snark factor kicked in from the responders.

I have to say that most places that fire a coach RARELY regret doing so. UC fired Huggy and that was a major mistake...but Nancy Zimpher (spelling?) parlayed that into a huge new contract at the SUNY system. Miles Brand did the same thing at IU with Bobby Knight. In neither case was there a fan uprising in favor of the terminations. Cal fired Jeff Tedford and he is doing great at Fresno State...but it was pretty obvious he was not in the best of health during the last years at Cal.

Very few type 2 errors (fire a coach when you should not have) as opposed to type I errors (don't fire a coach early enough).

I can't remember any we regretted firing. Tubby could have been fired last year if we weren't on the hook for so much money. His attitude and nepotism cost us at least 6 top 100 recruits and his own job. I think Parrish laid it out after last year. Ended up costing our program untold millions at the same time

We made him feel ungrateful enough that we ran him off, to me that's tantamount to firing.

Wait. Forget this past regret and shame stuff.

Let's just shame ourselves in advance for any future regrets.

Not that we fired Pastner, but we should regret his leaving. The last 2 years would likely not have been any worse and JP’s buyout would be a breeze to cover at this point in time.

I agree which is why I added "point taken".

Yes but we didn’t fire him.

Also, does he really stay here if UCLA comes calling?

IU fans definitely regret firing Knight. They still talk about it.

I would like to believe utk fans regret firing fulmer.

No, but he went to Illinois first, after we lowballed him. And to me we did fire him, just in a more disgraceful way.
