Memo to Penny Hardaway

Sweet 16 next season is a bit ambitious.

Not sure I like the flyers attitude.

Memphis basketball never fired a coach and regretted it, to the best of my knowledge. Every decision to move on from a coach has been correct. This one will be too.

Penny's biggest obstacle: public opinion on what should happen and when....

"It's the Final Four, Penny. You must take us back to the Final Four. (And please, let us keep the banner this time.) A trip to the Sweet Sixteen would be an acceptable warm-up. (Next season, please.) But it's the Final Four or even a Penny will get devalued in Memphis."

Don't make the NIT this year but Sweet 16 or bust next year. Even if the author is tongue-in-cheek, got to believe many 'Memphis fans' think along these lines.

Say a prayer for Penny....

Nobody is thinking that way.

Everybody would be beyond thrilled if we made the tournament. That would be way beyond expectations.

Depends who he gets in the class of 2018.

Penny will get 3 or 4 years at least.

He's behind in 2018 and 2019 recruiting. He could get smoked by Kentucky on a bunch of dudes.

If he misses the tournament and doesn't get any of the big time 2019 players, the people here will turn on him quick. He needs to get Lawson, DJ, or Wiseman. At least two.

You already see some of that nonsense here. Not very loud, yet.

Penny can get recruits outside of Memphis too

I agree it's crazy.

But I think that the expectation of a lot of people here.

Don't get me started about 2018.... People don't understand that everyone for the most part is already signed.

Maybe one or two gets out of their LOI.

So how long does he have to get to a final 4 before the grumbling starts?
