Who in their right mind would want to take over a program with a history of ethics issues and will quite possibly be facing severe NCAA sanctions in the near future. That job is career suicide right now.

Not true...still a very attractive ACC job.

Care to elaborate on why any of that is "not true"?

Hookers and stripper parties in dorms got the program NCAA penalties. And while all that was happening, they're probably paying recruits? I'm not saying the NCAA will for sure throw the hammer down, but it has every reason to.

there is no evidence to date the NCAA would do that to a high major basketball program. Maybe they'll get a slap on the wrist in the form of a single post season ban (very unlikely) but more likely they get a few scholarships taken away and will have to vacate wins (who cares).

RE: MBB Coaching Carousel Thread
My guess is no P5 and possible no G5 school (at least not AAC and MWC) get the Death Penalty again with all the money with media rights, NCAAT credits, bowl revenue, etc.

Suppose Louisville gets the DP and has to shut down their BB team for a year. It just makes the whole distribution of revenue too difficult for ESPN and other media partners. What's more, the networks don't want to punish these teams and conferences that hard. ESPN is the ultimate loser if Louisville gets tagged with a DP.

They hammered Kentucky pretty hard before Petino took the job. Their was similar pressure about cleaning up athletics then, but I would say it is higher now. Plus the FBI is involved and some of these schools could be looking at legal trouble if the investigation finds institutional participation.

Lot of things up in the air. The NCAA may just hammer every one to try and cover their own behinds. Rico charges can drag in all kinds of things.

The NCAA handbook clearly states: “when in doubt as to severity of penalties be sure to take SMU history into account and multiply by .25”

that was in the late 80s. 30 years ago. Like I said, the most loserville can expect is a few vacated seasons (2013 already vacated) whoopty doo. Maybe a couple scholarship losses and maybe a single post season ban, which would probably benefit the new coach as it would give him a lame duck season to get everything back in order.

Cronin to Xavier?

Xavier actually pays less than UC.

A shorter bench needs a taller coach.

May have to settle. I'm sure Dan Muller would be interested. Not sure he's done enough for the dumpster fire that is Pitt to consider even him, though. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

Coaches known/rumored to have rejected Pitt:

Crean
Matta
Hurley
Hopkins
Oats
Musselman
Schmidt

Current target (Plan H) is Iona's Cluess. Probably best to call back Miller since he's the only coach who has expressed interest in the job.

Or they could always reach for Dick...
