Billboards?
A buddy of mine who's a operations manager told me the u of m has reached out to his firm for multiple billboard advertisement. Could be football maybe.
Either way that would be cool to see Memphis billboards across the city again.

The on-campus stadium one was a good one.

Where do you live in Memphis and not see University (primarily AD) billboards?

They're everywhere.

I spend 10 months out of the year traveling for work. And I move out of Memphis city limits to the country a few years ago. But when I am at my shop in Memphis I don't see the billboards you're referring to like in the past. Care to enlighten me?

I respect that you're not driving in Memphis daily, but our AD is not hurting for billboard exposure.

I'm not doubting you. Simply stating this firm was asked for availability. He explained to me sometimes that's usually 3 or 4 months down the road when billboards actually go up from when the contract is signed. Maybe it's renewals. Idk. Maybe it's for football. He just said his boss asked him to survey sites and potential experation dates for a contract with the u of m.

Definitely not for football since it's too early in the year. I bet it's Penny.

RE: Billboards?
I liked the " wait till this year " one. The new one could be -a penny--just like the old rose ones.

Very Good Idea, Mental Image of seeing that all over the city would be a constant
reminder,, keep that jukebox on play..

I was thinking football since the poster said it can take 3-4 months before they go up, and midsummer would sound about right for cranking up football.

You're right. I didn't see his post in the thread right before I posted it. But why bring this up in the middle of Penny speculation?

I buy a lot of outdoor....one year I was the largest outdoor buyer in Dallas with 172 full size 14 x 48 boards up in one month. So, let's try to figure this out.
1) If they are requesting avails now, they probably are going to start advertising in 2 to 3 months down the road. So that would put the start date around May or June.
2) That start date usually would equate to football season ticket sales. It could be for early basketball season ticket sales but...it seems more likely for football season ticket sales.
3) A lot has to do with the length of the campaign and budget. Does U of M want the boards for a year or for two months, or four or what number of months? If you know the length of the campaign, that helps in determining the campaign.
4) Location requests can sometimes be important and can usually be based on traffic counts and traffic flow and target audience location. So, knowing where the boards are wanted may help but then again, if they want general market coverage, we could not determine much. In fact location requests may not tell us much.
So, at this point...all we know is the U of M is going to be spending some money on outdoor probably to go up in about 2 or 3 months. If there is a VERY LARGE budget...it could be for multiple campaigns (Basketball and Football). If it is the usual budget and every year about that time the U of M promotes football season ticket sales....the avail request if for football. So budget and past history are very important. As you can see, we need more information.
