I hate it when we recruit kids where there is almost no info on them. From what I can tell, Smith has started 5 games this season and is averaging a bit over 3 points per game.

There we go. That kind of production will certainly help break the 39 year long curse...

Damn. I must have accidentally thrown my scholarship offer in the garbage. I averaged 3 points a game and still have eligibility, so I’m sure I must have been on UT’s radar.

Not to belabor the point—and he did have a few nice moments this past season—but this sounds a lot like the recruitment of Gordon. I’d love to know which assistant coach has been able to talk TK into these recruiting risks.

pretty similar to Gordon in that he was a good junior in his hometown league but went to national powerhouse for his senior year and didn't put up much in the way of numbers but played better comp and practiced with nationally regarded recruits in a very strong program. Smith comes off as a high character guy who has good size, athleticism and shooting range, but hasn't quite put it all together. Sort of a high ceiling gamble who should be a good teammate regardless.

Maybe so. I question whether our roster is so loaded that we can afford this? Did we just give up recruiting a true low post player instead? And why can’t TK land one of those anymore? After Boothe, I didn’t think we’d struggle to fill that role as much as we have.

RE: Next Year's Expectations for MBB
For next year I think the development of both Jacksons will be key. Hoping Knapke will continue to improve as well. If the freshman from Canada can contribute right away, that would be a plus. I think the Rockets can compensate for the loss of Fletcher and be as good as they were this year. The conference as a whole will improve, though, so being just as good might not translate to a second place finish.
