I don't think anyone in this thread thinks ODU is better than Davidson right now.

ODU is 114-58
Davidson is 102-61

Obviously, strength of schedule is further consideration...

Both had rough years 5 years ago (Jones's first). In the last 4 years ODU has averaged 89 and Davidson 68.

The odd thing is outside of this board Old Dominion is way more highly thought of. The only people that you read constantly putting down the basketball program is posters on this board (or Marshall ones).

We were projected as an NIT team late in the year (after being projected as an NCAA team for much of the year) until the very end when all the bids were stolen. This despite reading on here how terrible we are and beat no one..etc.

The NCAA allows it to happen because it is controlled by the money conferences, he said. And that leaves strong basketball programs in less powerful conferences, such as ODU

16. Old Dominion (2017-18 record: 25-7)
Old Dominion is losing a ton to graduation and Trey Porter’s decision to transfer only complicates things. But Ahmad Caver is one of the best guards in the mid-major game and for that reason alone, the Monarchs should not be discounted yet. A pair of three-star recruits will help strengthen the backcourt and forward Joe Reece will be asked to contribute immediately as a freshman.

Last season, the Old Dominion Monarchs finished third in the Conference USA standings with a great overall record of 19-12.

A season removed from being one of the best mid-majors in the country, they are now a slight step behind the top programs in the conference but closing faster than ever.

ODU looks to gain some momentum for the future via recruiting and did just that as they received a huge commitment from Class of 2018 shooting guard Jason Wade.....
C-USA is one of the most underrated mid-major conferences in college basketball and extremely competitive. Recruits like Wade will be key for ODU to continue to compete with the top teams in the conference, and the Monarchs look like they are headed for continued success in the future.

The Monarchs inked arguably the best class in program history. While Old Dominion didn't ink any Rivals150 prospects, each signee should bring immediate value and further upside to the 757. Oregon State will not help us just like the bottom barrel P5 wins MTSU had last year didn't help them. Now if we win the tournament through Missouri and K-State, then we can begin to build a resume. Still need a couple of Centers, but I am glad we seem to be starting a new scheduling philosophy.

Im fine with some guarentee games sprinkled in, but I would rather see a 2 for 1. Not going to get and 1 for 1s anymore. Just the way things are.

Think Venture will do a bus trip for Cuse?

Long way to go to see us get our ass kicked.

Agreed. If Oregon State isn't the worst P5 basketball program, it's on a short list (Boston College, Washington State, Rutgers, Boston College). The only things I know about them are:
* they've been to one NCAA tournament since 1990,
* the last time they won an NCAA game was 1982 and they had to cheat their asses off to do so
* Michelle Obama's brother used to coach them.
* the current coach's last name is Tinkle.

Love the Syracuse game. Throw one more road big P5 conference game on the schedule and it’d be as good as it could realistically get this year.

They are a bad P5 team, but they should be a 100-125 RPI team next year (maybe better bc Tinkle is a damn good player)

Their center, Eubanks, declared and hired an agent, so that's a sizable hole in the lineup though one they probably expected.

Looking at the too-early Pac 12 previews and they seem to expect Oregon State to be in the 9-10 range, which is where they were last season.

Tinkle better be coaching like his job depends on it because it probably does.

The major benefit to beating Oregon State, of course, is that it opens the door to a probable semifinal game against Missouri and a last-day game against Kansas State or Penn.

Really happy with this new scheduling philosophy and I hope that we run win it. Finally excited about MBB scheduling again!

They seem to be high on the incoming big men (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.buildin...g-league). And I dont think Eubanks was that good. I would be surprised if hes anywhere close to an NbA roster.

With that said, their zone is going to be an issue.

As a Georgetown alum, I hate everything about Syracuse. :)
