So, fair enough --- that's how we get the 10th-place ACC team that went 9-11 in their own conference. Sounds like a team that "deserves" a chance to play for a National Championship to me!

So using that logic...90% of the midmajors don't deserve either.

I think anyone who wins their conference in any sport should be invited to the National Championship tournament.

Syracuse, meanwhile --- they've done nothing to prove they are anything better than the 10th-best team in the ACC.

If a team cannot even finish among the top 60% in their own conference (I mean, that's not a tough standard here - we're just asking Syracuse to not be among the bottom 40% of their conference), why sohuld they receive an invite to a tournament that wants to determine the Nation's best team?

Seven years ago, in 2011, UConn finished tied for 10th in the Big East regular season, then proceeded to win the national title.

As "Texan" said, any team that is on the bubble has many flaws and a good case can be made to keep them out, Cuse included. But some bubble teams will make it, and this year Cuse just happened to be one of them. Any team left out that you propose should take their place could be picked over pretty good as well. So while it doesn't take much to rile me up about Syracuse, their entry in the tournament isn't anything to get upset about. Their resume wasn't outside the realm of the other bubble teams.

My only regret? With about three minutes left in their game this year, Georgetown had a winning margin over Syracuse, and then we choked it away, let them tie it, then win in overtime. Had we won, we not only would have had another win over our biggest rival, turns out we would have kept them out of the tournament as well. As it stands, it kinda burns me that their win over us can be looked at as getting them into the dance.

Quo...call it even. Your victory in 2016 kept us out in 2017. We were the first team out last year. 04-cheers

Fortunately, we are getting probation behind us and players and depth are getting better. I expect a Top 25 team next year...maybe more depending if no one declares.

Just because you beat a collection of the worst 8 teams in D1, doesn't make you better than the 10th place team in a major conference.

In basketball teams can win any given day. It isn't as predictable as football.

Syracuse is capable of making a run and proving the committee correct. However if the name on their jersey was Boston College and they had the same record would they still be in?

Probably not. Bluer blood matters, Syracuse is a big hoops name.

Stink also matters. We all knew if the committee could possibly keep Louisville out, they would.

They put them in the death bracket. They paired them with an under-seeded Buffalo squad, then line up to Kentucky, and after that, they get Virginia for their troubles. They're not exactly close to their home turf the opening rounds, and then go to ACC country for the rest until the Final Four. It's very "loud and clear" what Arizona's path is to a title. Heck, even getting the four was an insult in of itself.

Cuse beat Buffalo...wasn't considered a good win by the haters. So now UB is underseeded and tough for UA?

Mark, has it honestly come to this, you expect people to applaud when Syracuse beats Buffalo by seven at home? I think I give Syracuse more credit than you do. I'm pretty sure nobody from the entire MAC beat a team outside the G5 the whole season. The above point was Buffalo may be considered a tough 13 seed, but it is nonetheless a team Arizona should easily handle.

The really weird snub was St. Mary's. They were top 25 heading into the conference tourney, and got bounced by a 24-9 BYU team (not a complete dreg of an opponent). A 28-5 team with a top 40 RPI shouldn't be sitting at home.

Their only serious weakness is that we didn't get to see them against enough good teams.

I'm OK with Syracuse because I like the school and they are watchable.

AFAIK Syracuse and Indiana are the lone 2 bluebloods not implicated by the FBI.
