I'm almost glad I haven't paid for my basketball tix yet. Last years schedule was a real yawner and this years prospects without Porter look dismal, at least as of now. Of course that could change, but I'm not holding my breath.

And could change if others leave or gained; which can make big impact.

We are not going to lose 2 to 3 more players.

We could. Or some could get injured. Or we could add 2 guys. Stop being obtuse.

Well the good news is Caver won't leave, BJ is a coach's son, and Xavier and the guy from Pittsburgh have already redshirted so they are stuck until he graduates. Plus, MTSU and WKU will be rebuilding. The conference champ may be a 15 seed next year. Maybe we can compete for that even if we suck.

I think Marshall will be pretty strong next year, can't forget about them. All 3 of their best starters return.

As our roster stands, I really don't see how we finish top half, let alone a bye. Once again it will come down to 3-4 days in an NFL practice facility 20 hours away where we might win 1 game.

How do I become a casual fan? That sounds nice.

Who do you see finishing in the top half? I mean, I don't expect us to be better than we were this year with the current lack of big men. But it's not like anyone else (apart from Marshall) really worries me either.

UTSA is pretty underrated. They have a young team who was starting to show some promise.

UAB will be back. La Tech will be back now that their best player isn't hurt.

Marshall and WKU should be at the top. Slick Rick recruits and plays them. I think they will be fine.

USM could be on the rise, they were able to do something we cannot.

There is always a team who over performs their preseason rank. Ironically enough, maybe that will be MT this year depending on who sticks around and what the new coach does.

So those are 7 teams I think could finish above ODU next year. USM the least probable in my mind.

I am being a bit of a hypocrite because I just said how it's pretty hard to predict next season's results when we don't know the schedule or the roster. But if AC is our starting 'center' 'front court person' whatever we want to call him, we are going to be pretty weak. Perhaps people will get what they want - driving in the basket by our guards and 3 point shots for days, with only perimeter defense on the other end.

WKU loses what 5 seniors, 4 who started. That's a lot of turnover regardless of what is brought in. UAB lost its' 2 best players, both big men, and you expect them to be better? Why? LT fans will tell you they made a bad hire. Why are they going to be better than they were this year? MT has a lot of holes to fill with King and Giddy graduating and Kermit leaving. USM got hot for one game. What was that score against UTSA again? Didn't BJ drop 36 on them?

I think you're focusing too much on what we lose and not enough on what everyone else is losing. There is a ton of uncertainty in the league going into next year.

LT also loses by far their best player in Boykins.

Its way too early to predict at this moment. We have about 6-8 weeks of teams scooping up grad transfers, which could have a big impact on our league.

Marshall is the only surefire really good team next year. MTSU will still probably be good depending on new coach. UTSA could emerge into contention. The others are either really bad or questionable due to turnover.

And even if they are, that still wouldnt explain why we wouldn't finish in the top 7 as ODU09 predicts.

Interesting. So you think we will probably be top 4 in a conference that is overall getting weaker? Is this supposed to make me feel better? Haha

No and no. I haven't made a prediction. I just don't see how we would finish outside the top 7 as you predicted. Maybe I'll see it after the rosters are complete. But right now, I dont see it.

Thats a hard sell on me. Maybe they will be, but they lost Johnson, Thompson, and Coleby, there 3 best players.

Hollingsowrth and Bearden are pretty good players. Anderson was highly touted, but didn't do much. The rest are huge question marks. (unless they have somebody that sat out last year?) THey have a good recruit in Banton that is ranked where Reece is.

Hollingsworth is more than just a pretty good player. He just dominated the NIT as a true freshman. He will probably be better than Caver next year, if he isn't already (not a shot at Caver but respectful praise for Hollingsworth). We are going to hate that guy more than J Johnson.

I, for one, am not interested in seeing the good teams in CUSA fall back to where we are just so we can compete and get a 15 seed. We need to step it up to where they are and become a multibid conference.
