DALLAS (SMU - Sophomore midfielder Alex Smith tallied his first collegiate hat trick to give the sixth-ranked SMU men's soccer team a 4-0 shutout over Tulsa Friday evening at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. With the win, SMU stays unbeaten in MVC play and post a 10-3 overall record (5-0 MVC). Tulsa falls to 6-4-2 overall, 2-2-1 MVC). The win was also SMU's second consecutive 4-0 shutout over an opponent.

Tulsa attacked and pushed the ball up the field in the opening 10 minutes of the game, creating Mustang turnovers and intercepting SMU passes. But the Mustangs collected themselves and took over the game shortly thereafter. Smith recorded his first goal of the night with a curling 22-yard free kick off-right of the frame which sailed by Tulsa goalkeeper Brad Lowyns at the 19:51 mark. Smith answered again at the 35:10 mark with a head off a perfect cross from teammate Colin Clark. Sophomore Dario Saintus gave SMU a 3-0 lead with his third goal of the season with 18 seconds before halftime. Smith tallied his third and the Mustang fourth of the night with another head off a cross from Saintus at the 52:04 mark.

SMU's next game takes place on Friday, Oct. 22 when Evansville comes to Dallas. Gametime is set for 7:30 p.m.
