Better leave now if you want to get there in time by car.
False. I drove from San Diego California to Bowling Green Kentucky last October in 32 hours. I did take a small respite at a rest area in the middle of Texas. So it can be done quicker. My wife was pissed! Lol.
I bet, she didn't want to spend any more time in Texas than she had to huh?
Lol. You always gettin’ your digs in. Actually we had spent a week in Texas. Then on to the Grand Canyon and then on to California. She has two cousins that live in Texas. Great time was had. We finished our week in Texas at El Paso for the Western football game. Great stadium. Great people. Great food.
On the way back we left San Diego in the afternoon. We hit El Paso again on the way home. I stopped to gas up. It was midnight. She wanted me to stop and get a room. I wasn’t tired. I told her I’d drive until I got tired. Well that didn’t happen for another 5 hours. So I stopped at a rest area near Big Springs Tx on I-20. Reclined the seat and slept for a couple hours. Woke up and we hit a Micky Ds at the next exit.
By then I’m rejuvenated and think hell.....lets see how far we get. We got back into BG a little after midnight. The stretch of road from Little Rock to Memphis is one of the rings of Dante’s Hell. I’ve driven it many, many times in my life. I detest it day or night. I actually hate the state of Arkansas because of that stretch of highway. I actually hate Arkansas for that stretch almost as much as I hate Tennessee for their stretch from Murfreesboro to Chattanooga. Hilljack states that won’t improve their highway systems.
I don’t ever plan on making that drive again. Not straight through like that anyway. But once I get behind the wheel I sometimes get locked in. So I can’t say never.
I actually love Texas highways. Speed limit is 80 on them on the way to El Paso. Which means if you get in the left lane lets roll 90. You can rack up some miles when you’re rolling that fast.
Edit: I learned in Western Arizona going into California that the cruise control on my Infiniti won’t go any higher than 90. I was in a group of trucks/cars in the left lane on 40-W and we were flat out rolling. I had the cruise set and kept bumping the up button. It stayed on 90. So I had to foot push it to stay with my little convoy. That’s the day I learned engineers probably think nobody needs to set their cruise control over 90. Maybe some other models will. But not Infiniti.
