We arent. For all we know the players were in total agreement on bringing him back. I know hes well liked.

So now we're opening the door to team politics.

If you're a well liked player, the team gets to vote on your fate.

If you're not well liked its a administrative decision.

This doesnt work. The team should have no say. Bobby sets the example from the top down. Simple.

I think you are just making up stuff without knowing what goes on.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
Looked at Day 5 video. Happy to see an interview with Sean Carter. For some reason he caught my eye when he was a freshman walk-on and I've kind of followed his career. Man does he look different today compared to 4-5 years ago. He has really filled out, cut his bleached yellow hair and really looks like a grown man. Really happy for him.

Also noticed in the slide show, and this may not mean anything, but one pic shows a degfensive back lined up tight against the receiver, man to man. Hope to see this this fall.

He said they're up playing press man coverage now? Looking forward to that.

That’s a statement. They must believe in the talent to play such a high-risk coverage.

No more having the CB 10 yards off the WR? If we could just be 5 yards off the WR I'd be so happy.

If I remember, at one time they said we were going to play a 3-4. Things can change rapidly.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
OK, it's softball season and I am coaching the granddaughter of a retired ACC position coach.
As always we discuss football

some of his observations;
The Derek Wilder thing is nothing, and that kind of thing happens all the time. He implied that the players would indeed have input, either formally or informally, and it is likely that some of the suspended players of the past could have come back had they wanted to.

He reiterated that it is his opinion that facilities are the one of, if not THE most important facet of recruiting these days.

He noted that while in FCS, even though our stadium was older, we filled it and it was loud. He said that compared with the likes of a Maine, or a NH we had a distinct advantage as we had the gameday feel of "big time".
He reminded me that some the best FCS programs, ND State and JMU have gameday "big time" and that is no coincidence.

Wilder has definitely proven he is not one dimensional in his coaching. I always enjoyed the spread offense when we had Taylor and a handful of exceptional receivers. He definitely fits the offense/defense scheme to the talent. Excited to hear we have the talent to play press coverage this year.

I would really hold off on expecting a bunch of press coverage this year. Its not just talent, but you have the have the right kind of corners and safeties to be able to play it. Lets also point out that, despite what some people on here say, press man is not necessarily a better pass defense than other options. There are some advantages to playing off the ball and seeing the play develop as well.

FWIW, here are a few different techniques.

True, but I just love the aggressiveness of press coverage. I hate dink and dunk pass plays that work so well against a zone defense. And then it opens up the deep route when the team gets frustrated and jumps the route/bites on a double move.

And thanks for posting the link. Good stuff.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
Part of our problem last year was every time we blitz, we got gashed through the air. Young at linebacker and then way too many injuries in the secondary. Our pass rush was really good and it should be good this year. If the defensive backs stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised if we played more man; whether it is press man or not.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
I would think some of this comes from looking at where we have the most talent on this year's team. On paper, the strength of this year's team is the DL...especially at DE with Ximines, Ward and Appouh. It doesn't do any good to be able to get a pass rush if the opposing WR's are getting 10 yard cushions and the QB can get rid of the ball in about 2 seconds. We have to do something to allow our guys on the edge a little time to get to the QB and making the WR's work to get open has to be part of the equation.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
Day six. Sounds like the defense has been dominating the offense so far. The defense caused 7 turnovers in a 70 plays practice today.
