Petition to Hire Blaine Taylor
People always ask if not JJ than who? Blaine is looking for a job and there is chatter from Longwood. He is sober and looks great. Players respect him, students love him, and he can raise money. We can get him cheap right now and plug in clauses that allow termination without cost if he falls off the wagon again. Imagine what he could do next year with BJ, Porter, and Caver. JJ's contract is up and this is the time. Let's make it happen. Even though it would be a financial position improvememt, I'll pledge $1,200 anyway.

RE: Petition to Hire Blaine Taylor
I really don't think you grasp how bad it was at the end. If you did, you would know he is unhirable at ODU, in a coaching position, ever again.

I saw it 2 years before most of you did. I was among the first to want him gone. I even suggested getting him to rehab and taking a year off with Corrigan as interim before the 5-25 season. He seems to have it back together now.

RE: Petition to Hire Blaine Taylor
I love Blaine Taylor. If he ever gets another head coaching job, I’ll instantly become a fan of that team. But, if ODU were to hire him, I’d lose all respect I have for the administration. They hired him the first time knowing he had alcohol issues. He burned them. Can’t take that chance again.

This is the same poster also wanted us to play regular season games on the west coast! Get a grip Ever, I loved Blaine but he is never coming back here, or probably anywhere near here. And btw, just about the whole world knew about BT years before the 5-25 season. Some of us even saw things first hand and then went above and beyond what a regular fan should be expected to do. Didn't matter though, he stayed.

RE: Petition to Hire Blaine Taylor
I’m a believer in second chances, but we would look pathetic and desperate if we brought him back. He thoroughly embarrassed the university (three sheets at practice, games, radio shows). And I have never been more disappointed than the 5 win season. We were so bad, I actually stopped watching the games. I still don’t like to think about it.

As much as I want Jones gone and as much as I loved Blaine Taylor, this is not happening. That bridge is burned.

It is called innovative and fresh ideas, Mac. When you have established processes that no longer work, they are needed. Our scheduling is no longer working. The reason we do it is to save on travel money. If we take a buy game at an ACC school and use that, it opens up the scheduling to get H/H series with teams nationally. Since the Power schools won't schedule us, that leaves mid majors and the best mid major conferences are the A10, WCC, MWC, and MVC. So 3/4 Of the teams that would improve the scheduile and might be willing to play us would be West of the Mississippi. That doesn't even factor in the fact that most of the schools in those conferences could be bad at any given year. You know Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and the Utah schools are going to be good. The Saint places in the A10, GW, UMass, URI, George Mason, La Salle... who knows? CAA and MAAC schools won't raise the profile. Didn't hear any other suggestions. The whole shtick is stale.

I can’t believe that anyone in their right mind would hire him back here as our coach...but then again we have Wood.

Ever, you didn't see suggestions because you didn't want to see them. I suggested we play teams such as St. Joes or other teams in A-10 and the like. Low and behold it's reported we are playing St. Joes next year.
We don't need to raise our profile, we need to raise our Bpi and RPI . We already spend too much time on the road in this stupid conference.

The two are not independent of each other.

Really? Can't live in the past. We must move on to the future, no matter how scary or bleak that future may be.

RE: Petition to Hire Blaine Taylor
Someone would actually want BT back? I loved him in the early years but he set our program back so much. I have always said I will support ODU no matter the coach but hiring BT back would change that opinion.
