I think so too.

I was a little surprised to see that their new arena is only going to seat 14k though. If Memphis turns it around i'm sure they will travel and with them plus WSU and SMU fans the place should get pretty full regularly.

Don't forget Tulsa and Houston. We open the new arena next year. Our season ticket base is going to swell. Fort Worth is only four hours away.

Hell, if Dunleavy keeps improving at Tulane, you might see some Wave fans there.

I'm sure there will be fans from every fan base. Even for those outside of driving distance its a major air hub. I expect much better attendance both next year in Memphis as well as Ft Worth.

RE: Really UCF??
Ucf doesn't have good fan support in basketball. It also didn't help that 2 of our games ended up starting at 9:30. Really hard if you have kids. I'm good with moving it. Fan support is embarrassing at the tournament. Maybe when the downtown campus opens that would help. Don't know...

Years back we played Florida at Amway and Drew 14k.

Cinci will have the PERFECT Arena....their renovated ON-CAMPUS Arena that would be a GREAT location for this tournament.

[Image: 635989922749408516-Fifth-Third-Arena.jpg]

This basically new approx 12,000 arena is the perfect size for this tournament...with seats close to the floor (perfect for all games not involving Cinci), plus having the amenities to please the big boosters from Cinci and/or tournament sponsors.

AAC doesn't need a 18,000 seat NBA/NHL Arena for this tournament.

For those that don't know, here are the location sites for the next 4 AAC Tournaments:

2019: FedEx Forum in Memphis

2020-2022: The new 14,000 seat Dickies Arena in Ft Worth, TX.

Once again, Memphis allows for seven AAC schools that are in 9hrs or less driving distance. I don't think there is a place better than that. And Memphis is a pretty cool town to visit.

except it gets stale in the same place every year and its not fair to put the financial burden of buying additional extra tickets every year to put butts in the seats on one fan base. find 2 or 3 solid spots and rotate. Memphis, Dallas/Ft Worth and maybe then one offs with Tulsa, NOLA. if Cincy could get its downtown arena situation sorted it would be perfect as well

If the tournament next year is an attendance dud in Ft. Worth, you have to rethink this tournament. I feel like you have put the tournament in a market the cares about college basketball and has a really good team. Right now only Cincinnati and Wichita would qualify.

Why? Is it because it's a 1000 miles or more away from 7 of the conference schools? Might as well hold it in Lubbock or Boise, because fans of Houston, SMU and Tulsa are not going to attend in any appreciable numbers even if the tournament is placed in their Dallas-Ft. Worth backyard.

You have to place the tournament in a city with an active fan base. We have 3 active fanbases right now: Wichita, Cincinnati, and SMU. Memphis and Connecticut have possibility to improve. Fans from Good AAC teams are not going to travel with the Ncaa tournament the next weekend. Too much travel in a short amount of time. I remember near sell out games at the Shoemaker Center on campus Cincinnati Ohio for the Conf. Usa tournament in 1994 and 1997.

Wichita fans will travel to Ft. Worth 2x the quantity that made it to Orlando without exaggeration. If it's a 6 hour drive or less, we will bring 5k+.

There should be a rotation between east and west. Let's see how Ft Worth does.

I do not like the idea of it being in a conference city like Memphis.

OKC would also work for the west.

RE: Really UCF??
You need a community that supports hoops.

Wichita State and Cincinnati are the only two that currently do but while Wichita does have a right-sized downtown arena, Wichita isn't that easy to get to. Cincinnati needs a new arena downtown. On campus would be a nightmare logistically. Classes would be in session for the first two days and UC's campus is busy, crowded, and lacks parking. Think of not just the team buses but the buses for bands, cheer/dance, and all the media trucks/cars.

Memphis, Fort Worth, and New Orleans would be on my short list. I'd be open to Philadelphia if Temple and UConn started to rebound as programs.

Well here is the deal

Florida is great for bowl games...and really bad for hoops tournaments.

Even the ACC figured that out...

Until UCF or USF develops a basketball fan base it should never be played in FL.

Fully agree. And to be honest, I am not sure it should happen then. Keep it in Texas and Memphis.

This, maybe the conference office might actually get it through their skull they shouldn't be playing in NBA arenas.

THIS.

And Florida sucks for college baseball tournaments too. Those should be played at Houston or Tulane.

We all know why...he is trying to keep up with the P5 + BE (for perception)

I agree it should probably be at a campus arena. Memphis is actually a great non-campus site but they might have to reduce capacity a bit.

I do know Wichita would be totally rocking for a tournament but the Shocker fans need to educate others on what there is to do between games.

Finally, 5th/3rd in Cincy would be a no-brainer after it reopens.
