If he got a raise and a long extension after having never gotten the Monarchs to the NCAA tournament I have to believe there would be genuine outrage amongst the fanbase. Wood would be on the hot seat then.

I’m sure he is most definitely not getting a meaningful raise (via ODAF). But we are in the odd position where this year’s team should have been in the NIT (if not for the autobids). So we had a relatively successful year but were left out of the meaningful postseason tournaments (big dance, NIT). He will stay as long as we have these types of seasons - and he should (to be fair to him). Next year will be telling re: his coaching ability given the challenge of Porter’s departure, which is partially offset by a talented incoming freshmen class (and talented freshmen who will be sophomores next year - MHJ/Godwin). I expect Jones and the coaching staff to rise to the challenge. But we shall see - and me and my family will be in the Ted rooting for our Monarchs.

To be clear.. I am absolutely rooting for Jeff to be the man to take the Monarchs to great heights (or at least back to somewhat frequent NCAA tournaments). I'm just losing faith that he will.

We share the same boat. I feel exactly the same way. I’m still ticked for our players they didn’t get to play in the NIT (don’t care how the coaches feel). They earned it - hopefully next year things will go our way.

I can see where you are coming from, but I don't think you are right. If they were perfectly happy with JJ, we should be hearing about an extension right about now. You don't let a coach that you are fully committed to get into the last 2 years of his contract. I really do believe that a decision will be made on the future after next season.

And since we aren't making the NCAA's again next year we already know what that decision will be.

The REAL decision is whether we allow Wood to be the person who figures out his replacement. Considering the horrible job he did with handling the taylor dismissal (justifying his drunken schenanigans and not firing him immediately for showing up lit to the coaches show) and the thoroughly mediocre hire he made replacing him, I think wood and Jeff can find their next job together somewhere else.

The program needs a rebuild and a fresh start and neither of these old men who college athletics have clearly passed by is up to the task. It is what it is, better to say it out loud and deal with the issue now that to live in denial that 25 wins "means something" when it couldn't even get us into the freaking nit lol. What a joke.

This Molinaro article from 5 years ago hit the nail on the head. Popped up in my Facebook memories today.

Money talks in college athletics. You want Jones & Wood gone? Open up that wallet and write a big fat check.......

Because, like DaBigBlue said, Jones isn’t going anywhere. I expect a raise and probably an extension of some sort (whether it’s a year or 5 years) after 25 wins and 2nd place in the conference

That's the tough part about the current situation. Either we extend Jones under the assumption that he can land some big men and get us to the next level, or we let his contract run out and hamper his ability to recruit.

25 wins with this schedule isn't very impressive. 2 place is also deceptive. We were solidly #3 in the conference, beating everyone that we should have beaten, and losing to two clearly superior teams.

Hopefully the MHJ and Godwin can help fill the void that Haynes leaves. Kithcart adds another dimension to our team. But with no one on the current roster to replace Brandon, and now Porter, we will be hard pressed to finish in the Top 4.

...and anything less than the NCAA's is no longer acceptable. No ODU coach has missed the NCAA's for 6 years and kept his job, and Jones doesn't deserve to be the first. I'd say let it run out unless we get to the dance next year, and that seems highly unlikely.

I think some of you guys have the whole money thing backwards. The best way we can show our displeasure is to stop the flow of money. If the admin starts to feel the pain in their wallets, they will be forced to make changes. If we can make it painful enough, the BOD will make a change in leadership. We need to start supporting the team more and the best way to do that is to show up to games and team related events. Stopping the flow of money won't make any of us less of a fan or supporter as long as we show up loud and proud. The admin needs our money and as long as we continue to give them what they want, there will be no change in sight!

I've been doing that for a few years. Been going to as many games as I can, including the old CAA road games (VCU, UR, W&M), but I stopped the season ticket purchases and the monthly auto-donation. I have yet to go to any road game in CUSA... it just isn't feasible. I'd probably go to Charlotte if we ever are both having good years at the same time, but even that is a hike. It isn't a day trip like going to Williamsburg, Richmond, Harrisonburg, or Fairfax. I've gotten too old to drive 6 hours and then drive home another 6 hours at 9PM after a game. Once you factor in 2 tanks of gas, a hotel room, and 3 meals on top of tickets, it gets up over $300.

How do you stop the flow of money and still show up loud and proud? You'd still be giving them money for the tickets.

I assume this means buy the ticket the day of. Way less money than putting in a donation with season tickets.

They don't care about ticket purchases. They only listen to the big donors and if they are happy with JJ and the rest of what's going on in the AD, then there won't be any changes.

I guess when I read "stop flow of money", I assumed all dollars. If I wanted full blown change, I think an empty Ted and Foreman would speak more than anything else.

This is correct. If we keep throwing money at the program, Woody will have no reason to move on from his comfortable mediocrity.

Just a reminder, ODAF doubled their record last year with 12 million in donations. Wood ain't going anywhere soon.
