No, that is certainly not what I’m saying. Do you really think it makes sense to terminate Jones and destabilize the program for a year? Who would be willing to take over a mid-major program for $300-500K per year that terminates a coach under our circumstances. Please let us know how you think that would play out. This is the real world of a mid-major program. We are not a P5.

So next year we win 20+ games beating all the weak sisters and losing to the stronger teams. What then? Dig for another year? Or wait till he goes 10-20? Oh wait. We hired him after he did that. At American. In the Patriot League.

Maybe someone will steal our shovel. Hopefully!

The big time movers in the financial markets are referred to as big swinging *****. Until a big swinging “donor” wants a change, then you can bet JJ will be back next year (given the circumstances). If you own season tickets and donate - the biggest statement you can make to affect change will be to stop both. And it will be recognized at some level. But if you’re not doing either, then the reality is ODU doesn’t truly care about your opinion. It’s that simple.
Already did. I sacrificed season tickets this year. Still went to every game, because I support the team, so maybe it doesn't really register, but at least I made for one fewer season ticket holder they could talley.

I would let it be known to ODAF with a call to make your position clear. It will resonate. I’m not ready to take that step, but I’m getting close. JJ keeps doing enough that termination would not be fair, but I’m growing weary of the disappointment. I polled my family (who also have season tickets) and they said “one more year.” I think that is the general consensus of the broader fan base and donors. But he could do just enough next year, too. That is the frustrating spot we are in.

It's exactly what I predicted the day he was hired. Not bad enough to get fired, not good enough to ever make a difference. Perpetual slightly better than mediocrity.

It's amazing how often I'm right about these things lol.

Mext year will certainly be big for him. Caver, Porter, and Stith will all be seniors. We will have a lot of depth. My expectations are at least a 10-20% improvement on this year and in the talk for an at large bid.

Next year will be huge. The pieces are in place to demonstrate his coaching/recruiting ability - or not. I have high expectations for next year, too.

I remember this same conversation last year after we failed to make the tournament. How many times are we going to give him one more year?

How do we know that next years "hot recruits" won't do the same next season that this years "hot recruits" did this year? Namely sit on the bench wasting a year of eligibility.

Keep on digging!

We made massive improvements this year. Just wasnt good enough to get in the tourney. Fwiw, Ive never said “give him one more year”

Same as this year. The success of the team isnt dependant on how the freshman perform. It will be on the 3 seniors. And hopefully kithcart helps and Godwin/Hueitt improve.

We will have BJ, Porter, and Caver back as seniors. Kithcart should be a solid back-up to Caver - Green and the other freshmen this year should see meaningful minutes as sophomores. And I’m sure we will add a graduate transfer and one of the incoming freshmen is big enough to potentially see minutes.

With all that said, I don’t need to sell the Monarchs to you. Please stop buying and ease your disappointment!

I want enthusiasm standing on the side of our court coaching our guys. At our level I don’t think it’s all about talent. I think a bigger aspect is inspiration, motivation and enthusiasm. Shaka got it done on our level because he motivated lesser talented players and they responded to him. As he got better talent he had worse results in the tournament. What I’m saying is, I want energy and passion breathed back into this program and excitement. That starts with the coach. Say what you may about Blaine but I know that man has jumped in the air before with his hands high. Emotion we’ve never seen from Jeff. That’s how you get your players to rally together for you. We haven’t seen our players do that for Jeff

This. The great coaches inspire their players. They inspire confidence. They inspire excitement. They inspire commitment to teammates. They inspire selflessness. They inspire players to perform beyond their limitations. JJ is not that guy.

Karen Barefoot cured me of that. But a woman's ticket is the cheapest way to not lose points. Someday this curse will pass and I am not going to spite myself in the interim.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't next year the last year on JJ's contract? There wasn't an extension right? Selig could have given extensions starting in 2014 but he never did.

That’s how you show up and coach for a big game. Congrats to Marshall. They were not the better team but they beat WKU and showed up when it mattered.
