Mark Downey
I have been and continue to be a supporter of Mark Downey and I think he would be a great choice for the Trojans. He was in the mix when they hired Beard.
He is a former SunBelt Assistant at UNO, Head Coach at Arkansas Tech when they were Number 1 in D2, Head Coach at a D2 School in West Virginia, Assistant at Bowling Green and Ft Wayne and is currently the Head coach at NE Oklahoma. He took over a struggling program and gutted it to rebuild so his record this year was not good but look at his overall record. He generally takes over struggling programs and turns them into winners. The guy can Coach, recruit and generate excitement. He has tremendous Arkansas ties and this is a destination job for him.

Right now I am 100% behind Darrell Walker. Well known in the State. Ex-NBA player. Ex-NBA coach. Now a very successful college coach. I think he really likes Arkansas. He would create excitement in the city. He is 57 years old and would probably be thrilled to finish his career in Little Rock.

Jeez, I hope Scotto sees this, Mickey calling for a ex-hog to coach the Trojans. I'd support Darrell. At least he's not from Little Rock. I also like Karl B's suggestion of Mark Downey. I really believe he's proven himself on several levels.

Speaking of excitement in the city, I thought that was one of the pluses about Wes. Seeing the video of our home games on the news, I've been more folks at funerals.

According to her Twiitter page Mark Downey's wife was at Lakefront arena tonight for the ULM vs GaSou game. Could that just be coincidence?

His team went 8-20. Maybe they are at the tournament seeking players willing to transfer down to Division II.

Didn't know that. No way Chasse replaces one 20 game loser with another.

His career record was 204-103 before this season. Like I said, this season was an anomaly. I understand your hesitation based on last season but I would ask you look at his whole body of work.

Karl, I agree with you. Still the optics of replacing one 20 game loser with another makes me believe there is no way it Will happen.

8-20 is an improvement over 7-25, but unfortunately I don't
believe that will fly in this situation.. I agree with Karl on Downing's coaching abilities, but I think Mickey is correct, that hiring a coach at 8-20 wouldn't please a lot of fans, that is if we still have a "lot of fans."

Hiring a 20 game loser in this situation is a no-go, no matter how much sense it might make long term.

Sam Goodwin really wanted to be head coach at AState when he was at NW State and had some significant support, he had the ill fortune of having two of his worst seasons the two years it came open.

Luck matters in coaching.
