2017-18 Statistical rankings (team)
I keep up with the top five and lowest five of all the UAB teams. Here is where the 2017-2018 Blazers rank in each statistical category.

Field Goals Made (945) - Ranked 4th all time (#1 (969) 2002-03 team)

3 pointers made (223) - Ranked 5th all time (#1 (254) 2007-08 team )

Free throws attempted (564) - Ranked 4th lowest all time (lowest (513)- 2010-11)

Free throw percentage (.750) - Ranked 3rd highest all time (#1 - .757 - 1986-87)

Fouls - (490) - Lowest ever. #1

Disqualifications (7) - Ranked 2nd lowest. (Lowest was 5 in 2005-06)

Assists (560) - Ranked 5th highest (#1 (608) in 2015-16)

Scoring (2536) - Ranked 5th highest (#1 (2640) in 2002-03

The combination of high 3 pointers made and low free throws attempted suggests that we failed to get the ball inside as much as we should have.

RE: 2017-18 Statistical rankings (team)
UAB finished with 20 wins on the season. Four of those wins were against teams with winning records: Memphis, La Tech (17-16), Marshall, and WKU. Two were against D2 teams LeMoyne-Owen (9-15) and Mississippi College (9-16). Six wins were versus single digit win squads LO, MC, Alabama A&M, MVSU, Charlotte, and Rice.

If there isn't an asterisk by this team's statistical ranking there should a tiny cupcake.

Getting to the line when the shots aren't falling is a useful strategy. That opens up the lane late in the game for higher % buckets. That would have helped our team immensely this season.

I don't have the rankings, but our opponents went to the line a lot less than we did. The low number in fta's I think is because refs did not call a lot of fouls on either team.

Eh, I don't know. Compared to rest of the country, our three-point attempt rate puts us at 273 out of 351, so we're not taking very many three-pointers.

Our free-throw per field-goal attempt rate ranks us at 258.

We attempted the 225 most three-pointers, but attempted the 51st most two-pointers.

We just weren't good at drawing fouls. We're not a team that shoots a lot of layups, and those are really the shots that draw the most fouls. The two players that I assume took the most shots at the rim, Cokley and Bryant, accounted for 45% of our free throw attempts, but neither player ranked higher than 341 nationally in number of attempts.

None of these stats are adjusted for pace of play, but I can't imagine it would change the rankings very much.
