Golden Eagle Basketball Teams To Hold "Midday Madness" Festivities On Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's and women's basketball teams will be holding a Golden Eagle Basketball "Midday Madness" on Saturday, as part of the Department of Athletics Homecoming festivities.

The event, which features the 2004-05 men's and women's squads respectively under the direction of Head Coaches Larry Eustachy and Joye Lee-McNelis, is slated to begin at 1 p.m., with a free tailgating cookout outside Reed Green Coliseum before moving the festivities indoors for separate scrimmages, a shooting skills competition and autograph session from 2-3 p.m.

This will be the first opportunity for Southern Miss fans to catch a glimpse of the new teams, which opened practice on Oct. 16.

Admission to the event is free to the general public.

Following the free cookout, activities begin in the Coliseum with introductions of both the Eagles and the Lady Eagles and the two coaching staffs at 2 p.m. The Lady Eagles will next hold their scrimmage, followed by a shooting skills competition featuring both squads and, finally, the men's scrimmage.

When the scrimmage action is completed, players and coaches from both squads will be available on the Coliseum floor to sign autographs.

The event will feature a "game-like" atmosphere, complete with appearances by the Southern Misses, the Golden Eagle cheerleaders and Seymour. Southern Miss posters and schedule cards also will be available.

Ticket office representatives also will be on hand to take orders for the fast-approaching season, and prospective ticket holders also will have the opportunity to select their seats for the upcoming slate. Season ticket packages are available for chairbacks and bleacher seating, and eight-game Mini-plan packs also are available.
