I wish MM the best, but we need to go another direction.

Everyone talks about the money involved and who will write the check, but you need to look at it a different way.
Hire a new and exciting coach who wins and puts more butts in the seats. Go to the NCAA Tournament. The new fans then may donate more to the university. There is your check.
You get 2500 to a game or more you are paying down Monty's bill.

DeKalb?? Cagey??

Whoever was on that “OMG greatest recruiting class in school history!!! Yes! lol” bandwagon a couple years. I was telling them to pump the breaks on the excitement until we actually saw results.

Plus MM will get a job someplace else as an assistant. That salary will offset his buyout. Time for our AD to get moving.

The longer our AD waits, the longer he will be at NIU. He needs a successful football and/or basketball program to pad his resume.

Right after I read this thread last night I turned on the TV and tuned into the Marquette-Depaul game. The announcer was touting Maric and his recent numbers ;(

Depaul is 11-20 this season, so Maric is not basking in his transfer, but none the less. He was and should be a Huskie.
It was a no brainer for Maric. Play in the Big East or the MAC. He got his stats up this year and then plays in Europe for a decent living.

If it were only that easy. Monty's "Bill" would be due now. The incoming cash; that may take a few years. I don't think he'd accept an IOU.

If there is offset language then you won't owe him the full amount. Some B1G assistants are now getting $200,000+. You'd just have to hope that he lands a solid job and your bill gets cut in half...assuming there's offset language.

40% of D1 college basketball players transfer by the end of their second year. 40%!!!
That and the one and done rule have killed college basketball.

I think I saw Maric play a darn good game v. Ohio St last year. Never understood why he was not fed the ball every time down the court after that game. It was as if his own coaching staff did not give him respect! Weird.
The guards couldnt get him the ball. There were 2 freshman at the time and a few other excuses but I agree he should have had more touches.

Owen Hamilton is the only guy so far that I’ve heard is transferring. The rest of the guys came back from spring break and are practicing. You can continue to practice thru the National Championship game.
