Ok that's fast. I just hate that he's taking time away from all young guys I guess. koko is that the new recruit? He's 5'6" I thought? Maybe he can return kicks and leave reps to Robinson, and the slot guy can be the kid from dekalb.

Really???? I can’t believe what I just read
if we're going to ban actual contributors for thread jacking hopefully we can get a ban for basically hoping a player a gets hurt
board is down enough contributors, we dont need this junk
So dramatic. Calm down. Just thinking an injury may be only way to give someone else an opportunity. Sounds like stubborn assCarey won't give anyone else a shot.

Disagree. Carey didn't stick with 1 QB. He kept searching.
Same with Rb. Huff didn't start game 1 although he came in quickly as they rotated often.

This is true, but I can’t help but think he wanted Childers all along, and waited till the ideal time (potion of the schedule) to put him in. Like the decision or not Carey did a comendable job handeling Childers. It could not have been better for Childers from a development perspective. 2018 is in his hands.

Would you have put a freshman QB in at the start of the season? I wouldn't have either. He didn't appear ready in August either. I would say coach had the best talent on the field and he is goping Childers grows and improves as does Hall and they battle it out with the others. Spring ball should be interesting once again.

Koko, is listed at 5'9. So unless you know something we dont, I will go with NIU's listing.

I don't wish bad things on anybody. I think the board is too hard on Childers. For a RS Fresh he played very well. I don't believe the coaching staff opened up the complete offense for him to try to limit his mistakes and have him gain confidence. If he works on throwing the ball downfield and with accuracy he could be a very good QB. That is possible and he may have already progressed to that level, we just don't know.
I agree that Childers needs to work on throwing the ball downfield with accuracy. Sadly he also needs to work on accuracy in throwing short and medium passing routes. He has just shown no ability at all in the passing game and he showed zero improvement during the season and zero improvement with post season practices in prep for the Bowl game.
That said, no one should ever suggest that an injury to a college player is a good thing. Childers is a Huskie so I will root for his success. I hope that he is challenged by others in the depth chart and that the competition brings out the best in all of them. I also hope that the NIU coaching staff has someone that can help these guys work on their game.

Childers gets overly criticized in part for being associated with all of the Carey frustration. Childers represent what many here View as Carey's main short coming. That "don't lose the game" mentality, instead of go win the game. Same thing happened to Ryan Graham And also to Bouagnon. Childers as of now looks to be a "just don't blow it" kind of QB. And fans are tired of that scared mentality. That's really not Childers fault and yes, he may make big strides this year and be a great surprise to many fans. Let's hope.
What I fear is that Carey's cowardly nature will only be nurtured by this really good defense. He may play even more conservative thinking NIU only needs to score 20 or so to win most games.

Why not. Its not 1980 anymore guys. Best programs like Bama play freshman, even at qb. It can be an advantage to recruiting someone who's slightly above our league. HS players are more advanced now.

Hard for me to believe this. From an offensive, perspective the 2017 season was basically dedicated to Childers development. Carey made a very clear statement that Childers is his (and the program’s) guy. Why would Carey have done this if he intended to have a open competition this spring? What am I missing here?

Not sure what your source is but if this means Rodney Hall has gotten better and is ready to compete...... I’m all in!

For any team, things can happen during the offseason that would open up a competition.

What could Rodney Hall have done in the 80 days of off season (30 of which were Xmas break) to “get a lot better” to the point where a spring QB competition is now a reality?
You have the retuning MAC freshman POY, who has more game experience than all the QB’s on the roster combined (including Graham), and who is Carey’s clear choice. His only true competition has transfered. Graham has a year of eligibility left but his status is uncertain at best given the type of injuries he has endured. Anthony Thompson has one snap in his entire college career which is one more than Hall. During this time we did recruit another QB, but barring an issue or injury, this scenario does not seem to be one which would result in a QB competition this spring.

Yeah Childers can't throw or run well. I rather have the dynamic runner hall if that's the case.
