St Louis sports talk show trashes Tubby
Live in metro St Louis. Was listening to ESPN 101.1 host Bernie Miklasz and co host Michelle Smallman this a.m. They played audio of Tubbys comments on transfers. Called him a perennial "quiter." Said basically what was he thinking? Sound familiar?

it's getting easier from a perception standpoint to make a change, if that was a concern

He was just on ESPN w/ Golic & Wingo - they had similar sentiments as stated above, kept asking him why it's ok for a coach to leave, a regular student to transfer schools & how it was any different if a student athlete transferred. He mumbled the same rhetoric as you make a commitment to the University regardless of the coach, circumstance, etc. Out of touch with reality.

Hoping that way down in the fine print there is a clause stating that he can be terminated if the school receives $0 Grizz payment.

It is both embarrassing and harmful. Tubby’s opinion has no upside in helping improve our roster and now he is a subject of national ridicule. 03-banghead

RE: St Louis sports talk show trashes Tubby
He did not represent well on Golic & Wingo. Seemed like an old man yelling "Stay off my lawn!". He noted that he didn't call transfer players "quitters", only that not making them sit out a year made it easier for them to quit, or not keep their commitment to the team. When Golic went in on him, he tried to backtrack and say that transfers happen all the time and some for good reasons, but that he was taught by his dad to keep commitments.

He also noted that he tells players that he recruits that things can happen to where he may not be their coach the whole time they are at the school, therefore they should pick a school for the right reasons-he asks them "is this a place where you wouldn't mind living and raising your own kids someday?". Really? Its almost like he is caught in a time warp or something.

I guess the silver lining is the national media now has a taste of Tubby’s temperament and perhaps will be more reluctant to chastise “unreasonable” and “impatient” Tiger fans.

This couldn't come at a better time for Tiger basketball, and I mean that sincerely. It's Georgia Tech bailing out the program 2.0

In a VERY short timeframe, there will be NO more need for him to chastise tiger fans PERIOD! 05-nono

Thing is IF a coach leaves he has to pay back part of what he earned. He has to pay that buyout clause to leave. So it cost him to leave. So why should players also have to pay a penalty for leaving.

RE: St Louis sports talk show trashes Tubby
Just have the new school buyout the players eligibility. Without sitting out a year in cases of graduation transfers. (which are supposed to be ONLY to schools which do not offer a class your current school does not offer in your post graduate study) The new school not only gives the player a scholarship, it then takes one of it's other scholarships and sends it to the former schools. Basically cost a school two scholarships to accept a transfer player.

If the player sits out then thew school is not allowed to put the player on scholarship, the school only has to send the former school that one scholarship. So they will be less one scholarship.

Coaches get paid six, seven, and eight figures to coach and when they pay that buyout, it’s not coming out of their pocket. So why don’t players get paid a salary and the school they transfer to pay some salary too?
