UofR having a very bad week. First, Qwan Fore, their scoring guard, announced last week, that he would take his fifth year of eligibility as a Grad Transfer at some other school, closer to his Alabama home.
Than, today, Richmond announced that Soph Guard Demonte Buckingham, has been removed from the basketball team for breaking "Athletic Dept. rules".
Buckingham scored about 12 points a game and was a solid defender for the Spiders.
With Trey Porter transferring from ODU a few weeks ago, it hasn't been a good offseason for them either. Several of our CAA member institutions have been hit with the transfer bug. I won't make any negative comments about any of the other programs since we just went through this ourselves last season. Just another reminder of how fortunate we were with the players we had that stayed last year and how well they played together. Another thanks to everyone who helped sponsor the offseason trip and for the hard work and dedication put in by the staff and each of the players. Now, just hoping for at least one solid inside player 6' 8" or above to help out Nathan inside next season. Not greedy though, it has been a fantastic recruiting effort by the Tribe this offseason. Eagerly awaiting the release of the nonconference schedule to include a pre-season or holiday tournament. I think UVA ends up being a November game.
I am also encouraged that UNCW has upgraded its nonconference schedule. Hopefully a few other CAA schools with follow as well. Now, for a brief focus on the spring football game......

That may explain the transfer rumor about Buckingham last week.

All the other sports (except football) switched last year, and I think men's bball had to finish out their Nike contract that went through last season.

Glad they made the switch. Looking forward to Under Armour MBB apparel in the stores!

Wow, i knew the super sized logos on JMU's court looked awful, but Northeastern's court looks almost as bad with the red, grey and black lane and three point area. Yikes

I hope that this is the year of the individual highlight and not some measure of discontent from these outstanding contributors.

Jonathan Holmes liked Milon’s tweet.

RE: 2018-19 MBB
My thought was that I hope Matt works hard on his drives to the basket and ability to finish, to expand/improve his threat beyond a pick and pop shooter. He displayed the former a lot in HS, but a different quickness and/or deception needed at this level. This is technically his fourth academic year upcoming, so, he may be graduating next May. Would hope he finishes out with a bang here in 2019/20, but if for some reason his playing time diminishes with incoming talent, you never know.

Loved the shot about 30 seconds in where ODU defender looked at the oncoming screen and Milon shot immediately.

With the addition of Harvey this team's potential, already strong, moves up a big notch.

RE: 2018-19 MBB
Getting that extra big man body to help give Nate a rest and insure against foul trouble is key. What excites me most, though, is the eventual development that will likely occur if he puts in the work. The basic tools are there- exceptional length, good feet, soft hands. But he is 17 years old and has been underchallenged thus far. Being forced to bang inside and defend on the perimeter two future pro ballers will force him to grow. Being forced to look at diet and strength training will force him to grow. To me, the only impediment will be his desire to improve. Being beaten mentally in college classes and physically in D1 basketball is rough on freshman. Maybe even more so for a quiet 17 year old far from family and friends. If the desire is there, he could be special. If his heart isn't there, he'll underwhelm and may be eyeing a west coast transfer before all that potential comes to fruition. I'm certainly hoping for the former.

My hope is that this class bonds really well. Becoming a "band of brothers", with a mission, is probably the best answer to keeping people from considering transferring.

RE: 2018-19 MBB
Next year has the potential to be a solid year. Only one senior/grad student, but a solid core of 3, count's 3 potential star quality juniors, 2 good sophomores (it is said that most college players make their greatest improvement between being frosh and sophs) that should blossom and 5 quality freshmen that should sweeten the mix. With a solid core of high level contributors, talented sophomores ready to blossom and 5 high quality recruits, the future is bright.

Is it too early to talk about how we get an international trip in summer of '19?

No, but I'd jump on filling the CAA slot in the 2019 Charleston Classic first. Tribe fans would pack Charleston.
