And the Siddle stuff again? Seriously?

I get this guy is new and all, but sheesh. Love how he didn't even bother trying to make a smooth transition from the Cacok point to a completely unrelated "what if?" scenario.

Welcome to the boards but it's been a year. Time to let that go.

Any predictions about any uprising mid-majors coming to Trask and do y'all think we will go play at a P5 school (like LSU this past season)?

I know we're set to play UNCG, Campbell, and ECU again. ECU will be at home, not sure about UNCG, Campbell will be on the road.

I'm guessing those will be regulars on the schedule with easy travel and in-state opportunities. Would like to see Charlotte on the ticket as well. I know they believe they are above playing UNCW, but nothing in their recent record backs that up. With our recent away games at Davidson, I have to believe we get a home game with them sometime soon.

The speculation is that the series will start next year, right? I can't recall if that was hinted to by CB, or where the assumption came from.

I didn't mean to offend you and the transition is a program like UNC could care less at the moment when or where they play UNCW because we weren't very good this year and I honestly don't know when we will improve. That leads to a transition into the hire and coaching. I talked to some people who really like McGrath and still think he was a great hire. He seems to have support on this message board which is great because usually after that type of one year turnaround people are ready to eat their young.

I think if it played out like 94 said, recruits stayed, maybe CJ, there really isn't a debate as to last season would have been better. The question really is long term who would be better. But. CB is the guy, so we just have to see how he plays out. While we all would love for us to be in the tourney, i do think it's great for our future that the staff is able to get a jump on recruiting.

The assistant that was promoted after Chris Beard left Arkansas- Little Rock for Texas Tech (with a pit stop at UNLV) was just fired after going 22-42 including a 7-25 record this season. Promoting the assistant at a mid major after a successful coach leaves is not always the best choice.

Perhaps not, But we saw with our own eyes quite the opposite of that with Brownell

Brownell had more experience heading into that job. He was an assistant here for 8 years under Wainwright (11 years total as an assistant, including his stints at Evansville and Indianapolis). Siddle had only just graduated from college in 2009, spent 1 year coaching at Hargrave Military, 4 at Gardner-Webb, and then the 3 years here.

Even Siddle himself recognized he needed more experience, as evidenced by him following Keatts to NC State. I have to imagine, had he chosen to do so, he could have gotten a Head Coaching job somewhere had he really wanted to.

I agree with you. I wasn't comparing Brownell to Siddle, but to the example someone else noted

I liked Siddle, but I'm not sure he was ready to take over quite yet. I do think he will be a very good coach at so point.

I knew someone would bring up Brownell, but his situation was different. I was merely giving an example of an assistant not being at a school for very long and then being promoted to HC after successful HC leaves at the first opportunity.

RE: 2018-2019 MBB Starting Line-Up Way Too Early Thread
Keatts felt strongly that Siddle was ready and should have been given at least an interview. Let's not go down this rabbit hole again. McGrath is here and nobody knows how Siddle would have done or who would have stayed. I supported keeping Siddle, but it didn't happen. Water under the bridge.

McGrath has a good 3 years to show he was the right guy. I would have liked to have seen him press and play some zone to mitigate our weakness in m-m, but Keatts never did that either. We all may be amazed as we are coming off an NCAA appearance and first round victory, which is the reason we did a 180 in style...to get that NCAA win. He isn't going anywhere until at least 3 years is up, regardless of where we are record wise. One thing for sure, this will be his program with his recruits next year.

I'm expecting big things year 3, with Fornes, Taylor, Cylla being seniors, Toews with a year under his belt, hopefully they can bring in a true big. As much as I would love to see a 20 win, Conference Title season in Cacok's senior year, I'll be happy with a year similar to 2015. 16-18 wins, compete at the top of the conference, but even that may be a stretch. We shall see.

Agree. I want to see progress next year, but year 3 will tell us which way the program is heading.

One reason I like the JUCO route this year is we need to supplement last year's abbreviated recruiting cycle. If we can find another contributor that has three years of eligibility left, that would be great. I suppose Elmore's injury helps balance the classes as well.

A first round victory ?
McGrath will have some of his recruits next next and some are left from Keatts next season, let's be honest about this . The guy deserves the truth even from a message board poster. It is his program right now but not all are his recruits now or next season.

I think the point was he got thrown into a tough situation late in the game last year, Now, he's got a full year behind him, and a full year of recruiting.
