None of that went into it.

Why is this so hard?

It isn't hard, it is simple. There isn't a high demand for 6'7 power forwards coming off of illness that shot 40% from the field, 25% from distance and 64% from the free throw line his last full season.

Nobody in their right mind would have thought that Nick King was going to be anything more than an average D1 player with a year of eligibility left.

No blame for Tubby on this one.

I respectfully disagree. I would understand passing on Nick if our roster was stuffed with talented and experienced players, but that was not the case. It was clear at the time that Nick would have been an asset for our team just with his rebounding alone.

It certainly was clear to the coach of 28th RPI ranked MTSU. It is not an accident that Davis is more accomplished than Tubby for the past five years.

There is no excuse for Tubby to not see Nick’s potential when Davis saw it and acted upon it.

Agreed. He was more talented than 90% of our roster. And Tubby turned him down

I am sure there was some due diligence done between Tubby or someone contacting Avery and that is likely what made the decision.

Nick wasn't projected to be anywhere near the player he is now and if his current coach (Avery) says he aint worth it why would you take him.

Looking back yes it was a big miss...Yeah Nick is a poor defender but heck so is everyone else on this team.

Great for Nick he probably knew he had no chance of playing in the tourney here so at least he gets to play in March.

It wasn't clear at all. It wasn't clear to Alabama and it wasn't clear to any other good program in the country; all of whom could have used a 3rd team All American on their roster this season. I would say that it was the opposite of clear. King ended up at MTSU instead of a good program for a reason.

I would hope so, too. On the other hand, Tubby is currently out in the media claiming that kids who transfer are quitters.

I sat next to Nick's grandfather at a game and told him I really liked Nick and hoped he would get more playing time. Glad it worked out. Too bad it did not happen at Memphis.

Yeah there is that...

But obviously Nick was undervalued at Alabama as well, are there any 'Bama players first or second team.

Nick far outperformed expectations without a doubt and that is good for the kid but I don't know if he improved greatly in the offseason or he was misused by his former 2 coaches.

I would go with he improved looking at his shooting numbers.

He was misused and maligned here...then he had to sit out a year there where he got homesick and it went to his lungs.

Nick King wanted to be a Tiger.
“I have a great relationship with the (Memphis) staff. They have been recruiting me since ninth-grade year when coach (Josh) Pastner first came in,” King said.“Then (assistant) coach (Damon) Stoudamire came in, and it just built a better relationship."

In Chinese diagnosis, oddly enough---sadness and grieving weakens the lungs.

It's just another perspective is all. I'm glad he's happy now and doing good.

Essentially?

He totally passed on him.

Nick wanted to come back.

Tubby passed.

Did Tubby say why?

Because he had a 2 Star JUCO to cultivate.

That's like saying an ex wife/husband that cheats on you---then divorces you---then marries someone else, is still your wife/husband. No they are called EX'S. They are EX TIGERS-----or WHO'S---and since they now play for someone else , they are PREY.

You were in love with them, you had cherished memories with them, so whether they are exes or not, they are forever part of your world.

In Nick’s case, it was more like he came home to mama but mama had a husband who was a poor father. So he left home for his sanity. But when mama got a new hubby, he wanted to come home but the new hubby was a rich old man who could no longer handle naturally talented players who were loyal to mama.
