....is underway. Video from Chad with Fickell. Few interesting tidbits - sounds like they are trying to find guys at LB. Bryan Wright has moved to MLB and Clements playing Nickel/SAM LB. Also has good things to say about TJ Johnson and Darrick Forrest running with the 1s early on.

Interesting considering we had Perry Young and Jerrell White running out there for the better part of last season. I would think we'd put both of them back in...although Clements in the SAM would be good...he's too stiff for safety.

Just because they are moving them, doesn't mean they are going to unseat Young and White either. It might be their best bet of getting playing time.

Some other tidbits touched on in today's recap, and in earlier interviews:
- Bryant is back to CB. He's got a chance to run with the 1s
- The RS frosh C is indeed running with the 1s. From the sound of things he's a beast in the weight room, and drawing strong comparisons to D. Bond on the practice field.

No surprise on Jakari Robinson. Staff has liked him a lot. Even so, there is really not that much behind him so he better be the guy.

We seriously missed his leadership on the line last year. He organized all of the line calls for three years in the pre-snap, and replacing him with a guy who couldn't even snap the ball without getting a false start was a serious drop-off.

If they're moving Clements (a starting safety the past two years) to LB...he's probably going to start. Either that, or they're going to be running the hybrid nickel we ran with Levi Payne a few years ago which actually worked quite well. Having three guys in the LB Corp with DB coverage background makes it much easier to design coverages. I just hope we have the DBs to go with them (and I think we will in the near future).

Clements hasn't exactly been awe inspiring at safety either though, has he? Maybe they are higher on someone else and trying to find a spot for him.

I definitely like the hybrid safety lb look though. If he's a tweener, you can make it work.

Oh hell no...but he's a two year starter all the same.

Bryan Wright at inside lb is interesting. 260lbs and tall. Very active player though. That will be interesting to watch.

I bet they get him down to 245 or so if they keep him at MLB.

I'd be concerned about him in coverage at that weight, but I'm sure it can be managed. Just seems like a lot to ask of a guy who's had his hand in the dirt all this time.

Either way, the kid has shown some flashes along the way. I'm a believer in our staff's ability to coach him up.

They actually dropped him into the flats and hooks quite a bit in some of their zone blitzing schemes this year. He's probably the one guy on that line who has the athleticism to make it work at this point. I mean, the kid was a quarterback in high school, so he probably understands coverages at least a little bit. They din't really put Minor in man situations all that much last year, he was either dropping mid or spying at all times (why he always had so many tackles at or just past the line).

Part of me thinks this might have more to say about Tavion Thomas' potential foray into linebacking not really being an option and Potts and Van Fossen not being where they want them to be.

I mean, Potts is at OLB and VanFossen isn't even on campus yet. Not sure how this move in the spring has anything to do with any of those three...

Adding to positions across the LB corps from other positions (both who were starting or making significant impacts at other positions) doesn't give off the appearance of not liking their current crop? I must not be making roster moves or depth charting correctly on my team. I lumped that initial comment together with the other move (Clements to OLB) which is why Potts was included. From what I can gather, there's MAYBE 2 MLBs on the roster, so pulling a DE to MLB would imply they either don't like what they've got or aren't sure about the person coming in being ready. I don't think there's a significant logical jump being done there.

Good stuff Chad! Love your coverage. Interesting they already got Bryan Wright down to 242 lbs. Sounds like this move has been in the making for a while. Love the talk about Dublanko and TJ Johnson from coach Freeman. They are really trying to change the culture with this team, especially with the D. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement in this staff's 2nd year implementing their system.

Appreciate it. She’s doing great. Next 6-8 weeks is going to be rough, but we’re almost out of the woods...

I think it's far too early to speculate on these things. Spring ball is more about the talent on hand, rather than the kids they got coming in. They'll get their chance to factor into the staff's decision making during training camp.

I think Mr. Thomas will be a RB for a while, before LB comes on the table. He was sold on being an RB. Yeah, i agree that he has LB potential, however I think the more important imperative for the staff right now is to just up the overall talent level of the roster. Sure, we didn't really need another RB, but this kid is a talent. Even if he does change over, I don't think he's in anyway ready to be a LB on this level. He gets on the field first as a RB, and if he moves over he's going to need more time to develop, and more importantly change his body.
