Hayden practiced today with an arm injury.

Here come all of the "I told you so"s from everyone who was calling this, though without anything of substance until now.

51-79, 525 yards, 1 TD and 6 INTs with 2 returned for TDs
25 rushes for 31 yards and 1 lost fumble

Constantly on the bench behind Hayden Moore.

I wasn't saying the kid was transferring, but he's obviously not the guy and I'm glad to see the young guys getting their shot.

He put in work, and in the end talent seems to have won out. Gotta wish him well, if indeed he transfers.

I think it's fair to say we all kinda thought this was coming. Like was mentioned here, he couldn't beat out a kid who's clearly not the one of the finest in the game. That's pretty telling.

In so much as we've heard of flashes at the position it's been about the young guys.

I think Bryant rightfully RSs, and Ridder moves in as AT WORST the #2. he likely will get some snaps this year tho.

RE: Spring Football
Great segment produced by UC covering spring ball, and our 4 EEs in particular

https://twitter.com/GoBearcatsFB/status/...2687748096

Great to hear from each of the 4. Of interest is hearing from the German Giant, himself. It seems as though he's most definitely headed towards a RS, which woulda been the best bet anyway.

Interesting that Tubbs' final QB recruit and CLF's 1st QB recruit are seemingly going to get us to the next era of quality UC offense. By all accounts these 2 have a bright future ahead of themselves. QB battles on deck.

RE: Spring Football
Cincinnati Bearcats QB Ross Trail appears likely to leave football team

University of Cincinnati football quarterback Ross Trail appears likely to leave the program after missing spring practice Tuesday, UC coach Luke Fickell said Wednesday morning.

"It's definitely looking that way, but nothing for sure yet," Fickell said.

Trail, a fourth-year junior from Wynne, Arkansas, has been a backup player for most of his UC career. With senior Hayden Moore seemingly established as the 2018 starter and redshirt freshman Desmond Ridder making a push for the No. 2 job, Trail apparently is concerned about his chances to play.

Trail missed UC's spring workout Tuesday with an excused absence from Fickell, as Trail pondered his options.

"He's looking into a transfer," Fickell said. "There's definitely a good chance it's going to happen, but we're going to talk again first."

With Moore sitting out last Saturday's scrimmage with a slightly sore throwing arm, Ridder was the first quarterback to take snaps with the No. 1 offensive unit.

Trail did take some turns running the first team. Sophomore Jake Sopko and true freshman Ben Bryant also got plenty of work in the scrimmage. Sopko and Bryant mostly ran the Nos. 2/3 offensive units.

Trail arrived at UC as a three-star recruit and was the most highly rated prospect in the Bearcats' 2015 class. Trail redshirted that year.

As a redshirt freshman in 2016, Trail saw action in four games and made two starts (1-1 won-lost record). Trail completed 46-of-70 passes overall (65.7 percent) for 494 yards, with one touchdown pass and six interceptions.

Moore was UC's primary quarterback in 2016, but Trail and since-departed Gunner Kiel also made some starts that year.

Entering 2017, Moore and Trail dueled for the job in summer camp until Trail was sidetracked by an abdominal strain. Moore eventually started all 12 games as UC went 4-8 for a second straight year. Trail appeared briefly in just two games in 2017.

Moore, Trail and Sopko were recruited by the previous Tommy Tuberville coaching staff at UC. Ridder and Bryant were brought aboard by Fickell's staff.

ON DECK: UC next has a closed workout Thursday morning inside the Bearcats' practice bubble on campus. UC concludes spring ball with an open practice for fans Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Nippert Stadium.

Des was a Tubbs recruit. He's the last best hope for a Tubs recruit to make an impact at the QB position.

The Enquirer never fail to show their lack of insight and/ or nuance with respect to UC football.

Well...technically, you're both right. He committed under Tubs, but the staff re-assessed all of the commits and only brought on the ones who they wanted once Fickell and Co. came aboard. Zenden Dellinger (who committed to WMU and has since transfered to Indiana), Jalen Walker (who RS'ed at Miami of Ohio), and Justis Harris (who played in 3 games as a true frosh at Minnesota) were not retained by the staff, so they definitely did pare down the ones they didn't want.

I think a transfer is in all parties best interest. We should wish him good luck in the Sun Belt or ?

Yep. If he's the best we can start at the position it will be another bowl-less season.

RE: Spring Football
You know, there are a lot of side elements to a successful QB.
1. Good receiving corp who can get separation and not drop the ball. 2014/15 seasons had significantly better receivers than the last two years.
2. Good running game so the other defense can't pin their ears back to pass rush and drop 7 in coverage. It helps to have 3rd and short, not 3rd and long.
3. Good offensive line, both for running game and pass blocking.
4. A defense that keeps you in the game, so you are not always forced into playing catch up football in the 2nd quarter.

That said, I am NOT a big fan of Moore as a QB. Lots of fumbles, among other things.

However, our QBs have been in less than ideal situations the past two years. This is not "just" about their talent level. Some of our posters need to let up a little bit.

That receiving corp was unreal. NFL Receiver Johnny Holton, NFL Receiver Chris Moore, Fringe NFL Receiver Mekale McKay, all time receptions leader Shaq Washington, and solid starter Max Morrison. That's an SEC lineup.

So true. That receiving core was as loaded as it has ever been (including 2009).

Thinking back about all-timers at UC who played football....

I gotta think I. Pead is prolly my all time fav. Perhaps others have been better, but there was just something about watching him with the ball while he was here. He had swagger, and the skill to back it up.

Hayden throws the ball into the ground more than any QB I've ever seen. His passes are seldom even close to where he wants the ball to go. QB is at least twice as important as the next most important position on the field and if u have Hayden Moore starting you will end with a losing record, imo. I'd rather have Ben Bryant running the offense to at least give a glimpse of the future and perhaps he plays well. We know what Hayden is, and it's not good, he is a sun-belt caliber qb.

Anyone hear anything on Desmond Ridder's injury? Saw reports he's in a full leg brace with crutches?

I saw one guy on twitter say it, but haven't heard anything elsewhere, so for now I'm taking it as a rumor.

Athletics Announces Football Open Practice Time Change

Quote:Due to expected weather on Saturday, the University of Cincinnati football team will move its practice earlier in the day at Nippert Stadium.

The Bearcats will be on the field from 7:30-10 a.m. ET, weather permitting. Practice is open to the public.

Due the time change, activities in the Nippert Stadium West Pavilion Scholarship Club Level are canceled. A future event allowing patrons to explore premium seating options will be announced later this spring.

Concession stands will not be open and the post-practice autograph session will be rescheduled.

RE: Spring Football
Just catching up on this thread and I have a slightly different view on Hayden. He is frustrating with his lack of protecting the ball, whether it be ball security during contact or some of the throws he makes that go the other way. Yes, he's going to be a senior and you would hope he would have fixed these issues earlier in his career. He is what he is.

He's also our best chance to win games in 2018. Trail is gone and if he was the answer he would have been in the mix last year. The fact he played in only 2 games on a 4-8 team says it all for me. We aren't going to win more than 4 games starting a true freshman. Even a talent like Mike Vick redshirted as a freshman.

Hayden is a serviceable QB and we can win with him. The coaches will have to put him in situations to be successful. Last year he had 4 former walk ons up front protecting him. Not good odds for any QB. We had issues up front. Hayden's WRs didn't really help him either. The offense lacked all around. Not just Hayden, he's not the root of all the issues. I thought he played well at times and I think the best chance for UC to win in 2018 is with Moore under center.
