Back at Minute Maid in 2019
...for an all-Texas Shriner's College Classic Tournament...

2019 COLLEGE CLASSIC AT MINUTE MAID PARK, March 1-3, 2019:

The 2019 College Classic at Minute Park will feature Baylor, Houston, Rice, TCU, Texas A&M and Texas State. Read more here: https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/shriners...-267876824

I'm assuming we'll be playing Bayor, TCU and A&M.

We had better have our big boy pants on; that will be a challenge for the Rice baseball program as presently constituted.

Anyone see attendance numbers for the 2018 edition of this "Classic"? I suspect next year's field will do significantly better.

I guess they discovered the SEC doesn't travel well for early season baseball.

I think they (the SEC) will next year.

I don't think anybody does. Baseball just isn't the spectacle that a football weekend is. I wouldn't expect much beyond player parents and family to travel, at least not until postseason. Unless you have a lot of local alums, I can't see a lot of people showing up.

Which is why this tournament should always have as many of Rice, UH, UT and TAMU as possible.

I'm not sure that SEC baseball fans understand the concept of travelling to non-conference games before the post-season.

What was the lineup this year?

Yep. Maybe they are learning that.

If next years lineup is a reaction to poor attendance this year, the organizers move more pretty darn quickly. They announced next years lineup the day after the tournament ended.

I can't find it yet.

However attendance dropped from the high in 2006 for the next decade. 2017 beat that previous high from 2006 on the backs of LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas Tech and Baylor.

Although if you read this: http://www.houstonpress.com/news/the-hou...17-8202134 several quotes indicate the scheduling is in the works years in advance.

Actually, they announced next year's roster of teams on the final day of the tournament.

Glad to hear we are back at Minute Maid next year. I really like that tournament.
It’s really nice to spend a couple of days watching nonstop baseball. Even better if we win a couple of games.
