RE: Most Surprising and Most Disappointing AAC Basketball Team
Most surprising:
-Tulane...went from being dogcrap to having a pulse and I expect them to keep improving
-UH...I thought UH would be good, but not THIS good

Most disappointing:
-Temple...expected a lot more out of them.

UCF/SMU get a pass due to catastrophic injuries that tanked their respective seasons

UC and WSU were as advertised

I thought Tulsa would be a 20 win team based on what I saw last year and they did come around

I really didn't know what to expect with Memphis or UCONN

ECU and USF were about what I expected...bad

I'll take UH and Temple. I thought the Coogs would be good but not great turns out they're amazing. Tourney locks and playing for seeding is a good feeling. I thought at best we'd be on the bubble. The newbies have gelled and the team actually looks like they could make some noise in the dance. Temple on the other has just been frustrating. I thought they had tremendous talent coming into the year and early on it showed. Loss after loss has to be frustrating for the fans. To me it looks like the team quit on the coach and really is there anything more disappointing than that?

Houston and UConn.

Houston picked 6th. Finished 3rd, and solidly in the NCAAT.

UConn had a losing season twice in a row. How long has it been since that happened?

RE: Most Surprising and Most Disappointing AAC Basketball Team
My votes went for...

MEMPHIS (most surprising)

I had really low expectations for them coming into the year. They had more roster turnover than any other team and the players they brought in all seemed average for this level at best.

They had a respectable OOC performance (worst loss was @ #155 RPI UAB) and then topped it off with a winning conference record that featured wins @Temple, @SMU, vs Houston, and then topped it off by pulling the double over UConn. The fact that they went 4-1 in the games that Jeremiah Martin was out (if you count Houston) is even more impressive.

TEMPLE (most disappointing)

No team did less with more, especially once we got to conference play. This team returned the 3rd most from last season (behind Cincy and Wichita) and possessed a fair amount of talent on top of their depth. After a topsy turvy first few months, they lost 4 of 5 down the stretch and may only make the NIT on the strength of their OOC play and overall RPI.

RE: Most Surprising and Most Disappointing AAC Basketball Team
I think Memphis was obviously the most surprising. I thought they were going to be absolute garbage this year, maybe just a half step ahead of USF and ECU. I don't get Houston as most surprising because I feel like it was obvious they had a pretty good team. I had them at either 5th or 6th in my preseason predictions, but that was assuming a healthy SMU and UCF and also assuming we would get between 4-6 teams in the tournament.

As for most disappointing, I have to go with UConn. For all the talent on their roster, I thought they would be competing for an NCAA bid this year. Even before the season began I thought Ollie was a mediocre coach, but I figured all the talent returning from injuries would at least get them in the NIT. Once the season began, Temple would definitely be the most disappointing for squandering all of those great wins, but I'm looking at this more from the standpoint of how I felt before the season began.

Houston surprised me with how hard they played on both ends of the floor.

SMU was a disappointment IMO even before the injuries. They just didn't look like the same kind of team to me this year even early in the season.

RE: Most Surprising and Most Disappointing AAC Basketball Team
Temple most disappointing. Demonstrated ability to win against top teams, and even lose close games to tough opponents. Yet also showed ability to play terribly against poor teams or lose big to good teams. IMO, most damning is being something like 300th in rebounding. No excuse.

Most surprising is Houston, they have had a great season and are playing great leading into March. Go get em coogs!
