That isn't how it works; they dont select on quotas, though I hope we don't get in. Aside from a new AD and a new coach, they need a long off-season of self-reflection.

I don't get this. We were the third best team in this conference. Did you honestly think, all things going as expected, we were going to win this tournament? I sure didn't. We were able to beat all teams below us, and lose to all teams above us. That's pretty normal. The only exception was W&M and VCU. W&M had their best shooting night of the year and VCU is tough to beat at home, I don't care who you are.
Of course I didn't expect to win, I just held my tongue until it was over. Third best team in the conference at this point in this conference is unacceptable.

Why is that unacceptable? What makes you think that yearly conference championships are somehow our birthright? As if other teams don't recruit, prepare or don't count. Finishing second, to me, means we finished above where anyone thought we would. That's a successful season. Sure I would love to go to the "big dance" but the guy's played hard every game. And truthfully, that's all I can ask of them.
Yearly?! It's been 5.

This may be the most astute comment I have read here in a very long time. Our fan base often acts as though we have Elite Eight banners hanging all over the Ted and that we are suddenly falling short of past successes. Last I checked, we have never gone past the second round of the NCAA Tourney. I am disappointed as hell we didn't win the CUSA Tournament, but I refuse to look at this season as an outright failure.

This is the type of garbage that is killing this program. You are either an Also ran or you are not. You are either trying to be the next vcu, Wichita state, gmu or you are not.

Being content with what we did this is is pathetic because we did nothing! 2 wins against Marshall as "something to hang our hat on" in year 5 is not even remotely good enough.

You either have standards or you don't. Clearly you're good with being the new "Hofstra". You know, the team that had some impressive Rpi's and win totals every year but never once made the tourney in the caa. I'm not an never will be good with that.

We can and will do better. We made the tourney 3 times in a 6 year span under Blaine so don't tell me we can't do better and we shouldnt expect better. That's an embarrassing opinion.

Looks like you and some others that are patting you on the back for this comment will be fine with a performance like this over and over again for years to come but for the section of fans that have high expectations it isn't. Expecting or aiming to win a conf championship with a trip to the dance once in a while shouldn't be called elitism, that should be what we should be working towards if not better.

Check out the box scores from ODU vs WKU and Marshall vs WKU they tell what the difference is. We shot 7.7% from 3 pt. and 50% from the line. That's not Jeff Jones fault, is it? He coached us to a first round bye and to 2nd place in the regular season. In other words, he put us in a position to win, we didn't capitalize on that. I get that people are frustrated, hell I'm frustrated. But that doesn't mean I want to change horses mid-stream.

The excuse every time JJ loses a big game.

It's the players fault. Right.

10-20 from the foul line for us.(we had been doing just fine lately)
We held them to six second half baskets. What a frustrating game basketball is.

Check out the box scores from ODU vs WKU and Marshall vs WKU they tell what the difference is. We shot 7.7% from 3 pt. and 50% from the line. That's not Jeff Jones fault, is it?

Jeff has two shooters that he recruited to shore up a deficiency the team had in 3 point shooting. The fact that neither of them got into the game is on no one but Jeff. For that matter, they pretty much never got into any of the games all year long. When the team is shooting 7.7% from 3 and the coach is not trying to get some other players a chance - especially one or two that could be expected to be a better shooter anyway - that is solely on Jeff.

The team didn't even get 50 points and Jeff did what he ALWAYS does. He went for defense above anything else, and even in that did a very poor job. He has the team come out playing zone (as he should have given WKU's poor performance recently against the zone and how they had destroyed ODU's man-to-man). ODU goes out to an early 5 or 6 point lead in the first half playing zone, WKU looks out of sync, and what does Jones do .... he switches to his preferred man-to-man and WKU immediately gets life in their offense, starts driving inside, draws fouls, and goes on either a 10-0 or 12-0 run. ODU stays in the man-to-man for most or all of the remainder of the half and WKU has a sizable halftime lead. WKU did nothing to make Jones abandon the zone .

ODU opens the 2nd half in zone and immediately regains the momentum, eventually gets back into the game, and regains the lead late in the 2nd half. Jeff doesn't like playing zone so even though it was working he abandoned it in the 1st half. Big mistake. Jones doesn't like to play freshmen so he left 2 of his best outside shooters glued to the bench when no one was making any outside shots. Big mistake. Those are both solely on Jeff and no one else. When the coach has tried everything within reason and it didn't work then he can start looking around for where to put the blame. That didn't happen.

Seriously, JJ's teams have been shooting terribly since the 90s. At some point you have to accept that he has a hand in his teams not being able to shoot.

We had the second best offense in conference this year. You can believe it was just an unprepared team but we had a good offense over the course of 30 games. Sometimes you just miss.

Though a significant part of the offense was the hot shooting of Haynes for a few games in conference and that completely dried up down the stretch and he returned to his career averages.

Well as far as Godwin and Hueitt go, Coach has said they are not ready. Perhaps he means, that as much as they add on offence they more than subtract on defense. Honestly I don't know. What I do know however is, you have to trust the coach with his opinion. I am not the coach of the team, and I'm also not a back seat driver.

Sure I would love to go to the "big dance" but the guy's played hard every game. And truthfully, that's all I can ask of them.

Randy Haynes played at the top of our 1-3-1 against WKU. Quis has also played at the top of the 1-3-1. When Randy can’t hit the broad side of a barn, you do something. Who didn’t do anything.......JJ.

Coaches get canned all the time for either making bad decisions, not having enough success on the court, or both. In essence, simply being the coach doesn't automatically make you right with your decisions. It simply means that you get to make them, and NO, I don't have to simply trust that he made the right one(s). His track record of sustained mediocrity is too long now to simply trust that he is making the right decisions and doing all that can be done at ODU. I along with several others that post here know better than that.
