This, at least until the Texas teams become competitive.

I should've added Atlanta to the mix. We are looking centrally located. Charlotte is the only one not central to all of the schools. The other options are perfect and they are in big cities.

At this point, I would be happier if they just let the 1 seed host the thing. At least there would be a good atmosphere.

The problem with that is if the #1 seed loses, you have a graveyard. That's why I'm a proponent of having the highest remaining seed host. Sure there are issues with this format, but the benefits would be huge.

I watched the CAA Championship game last night. It was a virtual home game for Charleston and the crowd was nuts. The same thing at Radford for the Big South championship. We could duplicate that experience with the highest seed hosting each game.

Exactly, let the top seeds host. Though it might add some travel expense. But did you see the NEC final? Small, but that place was rockin and looked great on TV.

In regards to additional travel expenses, I view that as an incentive for some of our perpetual bottom-dwellers to improve their programs. Good teams get to host, which means lower expenses and a home-court advantage. Bad teams have to travel, which is a punishment of sorts for their ineptitude.

Problem with that is that this league is too spread out. You would need to take at least 1 day off between each round to have the higher seed host everything, and the cost would be crazy for the road teams.

RE: 2018 C-USA Tourney. Gut-check time
One of the Marshall posters put this in the Reddit thread referenced above:

I emailed the senior commissioner and brought this up in January. I've been to Memphis, Birmingham, and Tulsa to support my Herd but won't be in Frisco this year. Here is her reply:

The current championship format was selected for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, we wanted to give each institution (and fan base) the ability to see both their men’s and women’s basketball teams compete at the Conference championship. With our previous format, we were split between two venues and often times because of the way the seeds played out, an institution’s men’s team and women’s team could be playing at the same time. When such instances occurred, administration had to split up bands, cheer and staff and it forced fans to choose between supporting one gender over the other. In the current format, the women’s teams play in the first session of the day and the men’s teams play in the second session of the day for the first two days of the event. On Friday for the semifinals, we will play all games on one court.

Also, with both courts being in the same venue, there actually will be an opportunity for you to view both games at the same time. The courts will be separated by curtaining but if a fan wants to see all the action, they can select a seat that will give them that viewpoint.

Our staff, men’s and women’s head coaches, Conference Athletics Directors and Presidents analyzed many different options and our member schools ultimately voted on the current format for the 2018 and 2019 Conference USA Championships.

We hope you change your mind on attending the Championship as we would love to see you here in Frisco in a few weeks.

I saw that, and have to say. That is the most ass backward rationale for putting on a tournament that I have ever heard. Why do they continually hurt the men's tournament under in order to pretend that there are more than 100 people who care about the women's tournament. That statement is unbelievably dumb.

Not to get too far off topic. But that's the current climate of higher ed in general.

I'd be surprised if Jones voted for this.

And I'd be surprised if Wood and Jones were on separate pages on this.

We'll never know; also I don't know what other options the league had.

Cut the tournament to the top 8 teams. Higher seed hosts each game. Quarters on Sunday, Semis on Wednesday, Final on Saturday. Seems like a pretty simple solution that is economical, fair, and will draw crowds.

Ha. I decided to shy away from going there... but yes.

No. This makes too much sense. Please stop.

I mean, I don't want to have to win @MTSU in the finals, but they have earned it and it would be great to have it in front of 12,000 people and where the wine and cheese crowd doesn't get the best seats because it is outside the season ticket realm. On the other hand, the semifinal game against WKU at the Ted would have an atmosphere at least like the NIT game against Murray State when Freeman hit the half court shot at the buzzer.

I would rather they just host the entire tourney at the number 1 seeds place. They earned the right to have the advantage.

It makes the regular season count for more, as it should. MT has certainly earned that right that anyone who wants to dance has to beat them at home.

The argument against this is an early exit defeats the entire purpose, and teams would be back to playing in an empty arena.
