Anyone expecting him to come in and change the trajectory of Tubby's tenure is thinking wishfully. He will have a new coach either next year or the year after that.
What is sadder is that it took 2 of his Top 4 losing coaches for us to be considered 50/50 with Wofford.

We're cusping

If he were Steph or Zach good his final four wouldn't have been Colorado St, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Wofford. Just sayin.

At this point, any freshmen recruits are good. However, as stated in earlier posts, this kid (and Tyler Harris for that matter) are ranked well below some of the players Pastner signed that were considered after thoughts in his classes.

Go watch the high school highlight videos of Johnson, Nickelberry, and Enoh. They looked like five stars because that's the idea of a highlight video. Now look at their stats from their first year at the D1 level.

Look at who we were competing with and LOSING to recruiting this kid. Look at who he ultimately chose us over: Woffard, we talkin' bout Woffard, lol.

lol, what?

Memphis, Ole Miss, Colorado State, and Wofford were after him hard...then Kennedy and Eustachy were shown the door at Ole Miss and CSU. That left Memphis and Wofford which apparently wasn't a tough call for this young man. Sometimes things just break your way.

Jeremiah Martin, Jamal Johnson, Brewton, Davenport, Parks, Rhodes, Thornton, Nickelberry, etc PLUS Jones, Vanover, and hopefully Harris.

it's not a one man show and that's the point...there will be a lot of talent of next seasons squad.

Just similarities NOT saying he is at their level currently.... Check Stephs’ list if suitors.....You realize he played at Davidson, right? They’re actually lower than Wofford

I rely on objective evidence as much as possible. There's no getting around it, this was a good get. Those bashing Wofford simply have no clue as to the quality of that program. They would be our brains out right now.

I'm still on the TS ain't the right guy train, but this definitely gives pause to think. He's also a higher ranked PG than Harris. Now we need a really good 3 or 4 who can drain the long shots.

RE: Myreon Jones commits
The only way fans will begin to support Tubby Smith as coach is if he begins to show some passion, enthusiasm, and understanding for and of Memphis basketball. Hr is not from Memphis. We are. He needs to understand the pride thing and do a much better job of relaying that to himself, his staff, and his players. Wearing the Memphis jersey is not a right. It is not something you wear and go out and play half-assed ball with half-assed effort. Memphis is a city defined by grit, grind, and hard-ass work and the Tigers have always embodied that...until these last few years. That said, moving forward, I and many other logical, sensible, long-time fans, will only support Tubby Smith as coach if he shows some passion, gets some great local players (Harris et al), and takes full advantage of his absolutely amazing opportunity to hire Penny Hardaway as one of his assistant coaches, and then wins these next few games. Anything less is a continuance of lack of effort and acceptance of mediocrity by the staff and the administration. We have some of the best local talent in the entire country. We have top ten practice facilities and game-play facilities, we have big pockets and can pay big money. It is time to do the job or find someone wlese who can. That is quite simply how business works. Get results, or GTFO. I'm out.

Alot of talent huh? Ok. Jones is not a program changer and neither is Harris especially in their freshman year. And all of a sudden senior jucos with only one year is gonna take us from a kenpom 160 team to ncaas next year? Maybe nit. But keep being delusional.

no one said they are, but if you put them all together you have a talented well coached squad.

no, it's not a 33 win Calipari team...more like Tubby's 2013 Minny team with Austin/Andre Hollins that knocked off UCLA in the NCAA tourney.

The 2 posters high on the kid were very clear when one said "Not saying who he will be a world beater, just see a few similarities."
