SOMEBODY HAS TO GO
LAST in the league in 3 point defense. Never gets any better. Most losses this season because of this. What a wasted season. Somebody's head has to roll. If no one is ever held accountable how will it ever get better.

While we're at it how about ACTUALLY going after a real three point shooter who can play defense too.

FED UP IN KALAMAZOO.

Hawkins is 2nd all time at WMU to only Buck Read. He will leave only when HE chooses.

How about one of the three assistant coaches and the director of basketball operations ? SOMEBODY HAS TO HAS A RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFENSE OR LACK THERE OF.

He'a had the 2nd longest tenure of any coach in an era with more games being played than ever before.

Much like Cubit, Hawkins has had an overall positive tenure with plenty of accomplishments. But if the program is stalling out?

WOW. Mr. Buttons. About 3 weeks ago I wrote a rather long diatribe about how Steve Hawkins is not a good basketball coach and should leave. He can be AD, or recruiting coordinator or just leave. You BLASTED me telling me that I am not a true Bronco because I dont back everyone.

You two faced ignorant jerk. Eat your words. Hawkins hasnt gotten any worse in the last 3 weeks. But he'll never get any better. And if he had any pride he would leave. But he wont because he has a big fat contract. So the Bronco nation suffers.

I still do maintain that a new coach is unlikely to be a real fix. The program is not terribly well supported by the university. But I do see Hawk sticking stubbornly to his ways and the rest of the conference has long since figured it out. A coaching change may not fix everything but I'm more and more convinced that it's part of the puzzle.

RE: SOMEBODY HAS TO GO
We held CMU to 30% from three here. We defended the arch an were fine trading twos. Apparently we abandoned that game plan today.

Davis, Jones, Moore, Wilder, and Printy can all drop threes, but drives and kicks aren’t and never have been our offense, but that’s the direction college basketball is headed.

UT’s coach figured it out, changed his offense and found players to fit it. Not sure Hawkins has the will to change his offense.

The brand identity of the program isn't appealing. I honestly have no clue what they are trying to do. Soft D. Little to no pressure. No offensive tempo to speak of. It's boring to watch

I agree. I’m perplexed. Davis has two guys who can run and a bunch of slow plodders in Meyer, Kozinski, and Dileo. Yet they press the entire game. We have real athletes in Wilder, Jones, Davis, and Johnson. We only press when down 10 late. Perplexed

RE: SOMEBODY HAS TO GO
WMU has had some nice seasons but I honestly think our MAC Basketball coaching and players, including EMUs, have dropped off the past 20 years. I don't know what Hawkins overall conference winning percentage is, but I would bet no better than 0.600?? Typically if you have a good MAC coach that wins the MAC tournament and wins one NCAA tournament game, he's hired away. Even UB's Oats is winning mostly on talent. The MAC's overall coaching talent has gone down the past 10-20 years.

If a MAC team could hire a promising coach (ie similar to your Football hire in Fleck) I believe that school could make a great tenured run because he'd out coach most of the MAC. When he leaves for greener pastures, you must have an AD who understands Basketball and repeat a good hire. I guess easier said than done.....

Hawkins' MAC winning percentage is .586, second-best in school history.

The problem with demanding that "somebody has to go" is that, especially at this level, you run the risk of getting somebody who can't do as well as the coach you got rid off.

Also running the risk of losing players to the liberal transfer system and recruits will bolt. This season reminds me of when CMU was picked to win it all and had a dud season. Everyone forgets the MAC is upside down currently. Buffalo and Toledo are in position to be upset with several hot teams coming on strong the last two weeks.

If we won last Saturday this online chatter would be dead. Everyone wants to win 23-25 games, get a NCAA bid and pray for a first round win. 90% of the MAC has been in the same boat as WMU is currently in at one time during 2018 conference play. Buffalo had the breakout year but very tough to do that in the MAC. Look at our 2014 season as champs, many close games and losses we should have won. This team has been punched in the face the last few weeks. How they respond tonight we be interesting.

While this season has been a disappointment given the level of talent Hawkins has to work with (significantly more than CMU, for example) it is not going to get much better until WMU builds a practice faclity. It does not matter who the coach is.

RE: SOMEBODY HAS TO GO
Practice facility is nice, EMU has a beautiful arena with adjacent practice facility, but it's about strategy and players. I am not picking on WMU but

Talent at Buffalo / Toledo / EMU / BSU > WMU

Coaching at Toledo / Buffalo = EMU / WMU (Whitford ? Due to player injuries)

Coaching at CMU/NIU is bottom 1/3 of Conference. How does Montgomery have a job?

Bottom line is, when your coach has an overall winning record of 0.586, he's not getting it done at a high enough level to be hired away and neither is Rob Murphy.
