So, any CBI or CIT bids yet? Mostly looking for that stuff. Not whether teams deserve to play or the legitimacy of conference tournaments.

This is why, as noted earlier in the thread, not all teams should be allowed in conference tournaments. I'm not against the little guy because Northern Kentucky should be getting getting the auto-bid, not Cleveland State who totally sucked this year.

I agree with limiting conference tourneys but that is a should be a conference decision. If a 6 or 7 seed is playing good basketball at the end of the year and they win the tourney that's fair in my book. What's more fair than playing for the right to move on? Higher seeds get what should be easier paths.

Wright State will either go to the NCAA tournament or sit out the postseason, unless for some bizarre reason they get an NIT invitation. The university is in enough financial trouble that they can't participate in a pay-to-play tournament.

tonight is a huge night with 2 finals where you have 1 vs 2 where if the 1 loses, they're an NIT bid thief. South Dakota St as a 1 vs South Dakota in the Summit, and Charleston vs Northeastern in the CAA. Both are 50/50 props.

Then you have the BYU/Gonzaga game where BYU was right on the NIT bubble. a BYU win and that'll push someone down from NCAA to NIT- stealing a NIT bid that way for one of the lower NIT teams.

Give me college basketball 100% of the time.

Your justification for the college basketball postseason is, "Who cares if it's fair, what matters is that the games are entertaining." The exact same justification could be applied to the College Football Playoff, whose games have been very entertaining.

It's that everyone has a chance. Definitely not that way in college football, where for 65 teams you are done before the season.

If you give autobids to regular season champs, then everyone already has a chance -- win your conference's regular season and you're in.

What exists now is that teams who are terrible in the regular season get an undeserved second chance. Doesn't matter for any conference whose regular season champ is going to get an at-large bid anyway, but for the winners of the other 23 conferences it matters a lot. Example: Northern Kentucky's 15-3 conference regular season got them nothing. They're out and a team that was 6-12 in the regular season is still in it. Essentially, they played 30 exhibition games and then lost the only game that counted. Might as well skip the regular season and draw conference tournament seedings at random.

I don't really have a problem with the conference tournaments. I have a problem with a team that is .500 in conference and so fails to do well in the regular season, loses in the conference tournament but still gets a 3rd chance by being invited to the NCAA tourney. There are simply too many undeserving schools.

This is the 2nd straight year the #1 seed lost in the Horizon quarterfinals at Motor City Madness.

That league really needs to go back to their old tourney format. Don’t have a team in the league, but I used to love driving to a campus in WI/IL/IN for the Horizon tourney. MCM has been a killer for them in both environment and advancing top teams.

3rd actually, I think.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
The easy solution in my opinion would be to just only accept a percentage of the teams to play in the conference tournament. If the best team in the conference losses to the fifth best team in the conference who goes on to win their tournament they should be rewarded. And let's just say that team has a 10 loss record and came on strong late in the season. That gives teams an actual chance to improve as the season goes on. But the worst team in the conference should not be given the chance to play for a bid IMO.

If you have a 12 team conference invite the top 6 teams. All six of them should in theory at least be .500 or better.

Big Sky used to do that, but went away from that.

One of the things that makes March Madness so special is 340+ teams have a chance (however unlikely) to win the NC if they go on a streak.

CUSA cuts the pool from 14 down to 12 so...yeah...

I'd like to just take the top 8. Start at quarter finals.

Should be top 6 or 7. Give the regular season champion a bye I to the semis.

I thing that is funny with the conferences is a lot of times we see with the 1 seed upsets it happening in a situation where the team they're playing had to play a game while they had a bye.

Down goes Wagner it's looking like and Charleston may have pulled a rabbit out of its hat because they looked down and out with a minute to go.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
so we're up to 5 NIT bid thieves. Got 4 other conferences where it's a 1 bid conference where the top teams were tied- or in other words - very easy to see a bid thief there. Got a few already set up finals where it's 1/2 in the conference. We do have a few conferences where the #1 team isn't the top team in KP. I think we could easily see 10-12 NIT bid thieves.

right now in NIT bracktology- these teams I wouldn't feel comfortable at all if i were them-
Belmont, Indiana, UCF (current NIT 7 seeds)
Davidson, BYU, Old Dominion, Boston College(current NIT 6 seeds)

Those 7 would be the ones that are in most danger of falling out of the NIT- especially Belmont, Indiana, BYU who all 3 are all done right now.

Someone floated this idea...why not have conference tournaments be round robins? Bring in the top 6 teams and do a round robin. Tiebreaker is head-to-head and then higher seed.

That's way more fair than this one and done crap that eliminates the best team from the 1-bid conferences far too often.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
lets look-
Rider (MAAC) ranked 139 in KP. Iona won conference tourney, ranked in KP 134.
UNC-Asheville (Big South) ranked 191 in KP. Radford won conference tourney, ranked in KP 170
Northern Kentucky (Horizon) ranked 96 in KP. Wright St won conference tourney, ranked in KP 136
FGCU (ASun) ranked 130 in KP. Lipscomb won conference tourney, ranked in KP 164
Wagner (NEC) ranked 172 in KP. LIU Brooklyn won conference tourney, ranked in KP 250

so in 2/5 places, the winner was actually better than the conference regular season champ. In Horizon and ASUN, 2nd place team won the conference. In NEC, the 4 seed won on the 1 seed's home floor.

What's fair is what each conference decides. If a team gets hot and wins 3/4 games in March, then they get the bid. If the conference wants to change the rules, it's up to them.

One thing I'm surprised that more conferences have not done is the double bye for its top teams. I know some have, but conferences like the Horizon should.
