With each loss, it grows more likely
Change is becoming more likely, if not inevitable.

When you posted, a few weeks ago, I was 100% sure Wes would be back. I'm certainly not a 100% sure now. Still, I haven't talked to anyone who doesn't expect him to be back for, at least, one more season. I would be quite surprised if he isn't back next year.

Wes’s has a 4 year contract @ 300,000 a year.

RE: With each loss, it grows more likely
Thanks RBL. For some reason I thought it was for 3 years, which I thought was odd because I think a coach deserves 4 years to get in his own players, etc. Anyway, this removes any doubt that Wes will be here next year. If we don't improve next season, whether a buy-out of his 4th season is something that should be considered, will be an argument we can have this time next year.

If he leaves before his contract is up it is because he either quits or gets fired for cause (as in reasons besides wins and losses).

I think there is a 3rd option. I think we will improve next season, but if we don't I think Wes might be willing to work out a reasonable buyout for his 4th season. I'd think if we have another season, like this one, he might be ready to move on.

I haven't counted, but I think we have lost around 10 games by 5 points or less. With DeAndre and Tucker, plus a decent recruit or 2, added to what we have back, turning a majority of those games around is not an unreasonable expectation.

I can't believe Ghasse gave a guy with no head coaching experience a four year contract. He's already screwed up anyway, might as well give the guy an extension, and a hundred thousand dollar a year increase. Looks like he's headed to break Sidney's loss record. What a joke. The Trojan program will never recover this time.

The thing that concerns me is that we do not appear to have improved all that much over the course of the season.

Even if Wes has four years on the contract, it may be that the back end of it may not have much attached to it in the way of buy-out.

I have no idea how buyouts normally work. Do they typically involving actually buying out the full contract- in this case 300K for each year left? Or is it set up like Wes' buy-out to the University if he leaves early? In other words, it starts at 400K and gradually goes down to 250K. Regardless, I see no scenario where we are going to give a coach a quarter million or more to leave.

I don't know what we can afford to do, but Chasse can't be seeing anything right now that gives him much reason for optimism.

I know we can't afford paying a buyout of $200K, let alone 600K. I also don't know of any UA-Little Rock fan who would be willing to put in that much of their own money to buy-out a coach. Again, I may be totally wrong, but I think its nonsensical to think there might be a coaching change at this point in time.

RE: With each loss, it grows more likely
it boggles the mind that Chasse would give someone with no head coaching experience more than what Beard received with his coaching successes before he came to Little Rock. Chasse must have been feeling pretty good about himself at the time Wes was hired to give the job to him without any search for a replacement and a significant raise to boot. The program is in serious trouble and the Chasse is to blame. Chasse needs to fix this or maybe he needs to go as well.
