Gender balance
The Title legislation mandated the same number of women's athletic scholarships as men's. So now schools have a whole slew of women's events to balance off the number of scholarships against football. But area all these extra sports helping American girls? CCU women's tennis has nine players on the roster, and seven of them are from foreign countries. In women's golf, one player out of seven is from the US. And that is typical. In women's sports it is rare not to find at least a couple of them that have a majority of foreign players.

Now, all this is neither here nor there from one standpoint, but it would seem to me that the purpose of US laws is not to balance out scholarships to foreign players.

I'm pretty familiar with college tennis. Tennis coaches, like all coaches in any sport, want to win. If they don't, sooner or later they will be looking for a job.

In college tennis, the best players that can be found are by and large not from the US. Tennis is a much bigger deal in other parts of the world. So if you want to keep your job, a college tennis coach will recruit high talent from overseas.

I'm not faulting the coaches. You go where the talent is. That just seems like an odd inconsistency about the legislation. If it is legislation by a US body supposedly to benefit US women, then it would seem like you would only count scholarships that were given to US women when you did the tally.

RE: Gender balance
Little Rock has 106 female student athletes and 26 come from outside the U.S., roughly 25 percent.

There are 77 male student athletes.
