Smart move. Georgia State is horrible in baseball. Their baseball players looked mighty confused against UCONN a few weekends ago. Perhaps they're having an identity crisis as a result of the football team playing in a ballpark.

No, they are getting on an ESPN "platform". (Think Watch ESPN and the new ESPN+). My understanding is that ESPN+ will be a streaming service only available by subscription by paying an extra 5 bucks a month, on top of what you already pay your provider for the other ESPN services. This is nothing but a money grab by ESPN, and won't result in a lot of eyeballs on the Sun Belt programming.

Ehhh. Most of thier stuff was on ESN3 anyway---so exposure isnt really changing. They get 4 more games on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU plus thier CCG's are going to be on linear TV as well. They will end up with all mens and womens basketball game on ESPN-Plus. Also, keep in mind, out of market MLS games as well as possibly some MLB/NHL pacakges. So, there will be a bigger audience out there than you might think for ESPN-Plus. Overall, Id say its probably not a bad deal--especially if hey get say $500K a school or so. All in all, I suspect ESPN-Plus will likely be a better more watched platform than something like STADIUM.

ESPN is buying up the rights to everything. The plan from what most of us have seen is to offer Out of Market NHL, MLS, and MLB Games via the ESPN Plus platform. They've got some contracts to finish out, but eventually all of the ESPN3 content will move to Plus.

Sun Belt gets to play Guinea Pig because they happened to be the G5 league with a TV Contract expiring right now. The reality is, the next AAC deal will include some Plus games as well.

The current Sun Belt contract with ESPN runs through the 2019-20 academic year. So no their contract wasn't up. ESPN renegotiated early. Their contract effectively expires the same time as the American. So maybe Aresco is having these discussions with them now but the details need to be worked out through in more detail. I mean the Sun Belt gets their championships and a few extra games on the main channels plus a raise. So good for them but I think the American deal will take much longer to agree upon if the league even decides to sign early.

Not so sure. People are assuming ESPN will be a part of the next media contracts but there is a good possibility they won't be.

It would have to be really good money for the AAC to renegotiate early. ESPN already has the champ game plus Navy, minus Army, beginning this year at the original contracted price. Based on comments from those involved, the contract is going to be split in order to max. revenue. No doubt some games will find their way to + which could be better exposure than the AAC digital network.

I wouldn’t say that. In fact, ESPN is almost certain to be part of the next AAC deal. That said, it’s also almost ceratain that other networks will be part of the deal. That’s why an early renegotiation is essentially impossible. The only way an early deal is possible is if ESPN offers a huge deal for 100% of our content—which is fairly unlikely.

Only if the SunBelt and MAC had a gridiron challenge so we could still get to play you in football.

Now that isn't very nice, friend.

I bet shere would be happy in the Sunbelt with So. Miss.

We would be so happy in a three team Sun Belt. Memphis, Cincy and USM just round-robbi-nin on each other forever.

/\This/\ Most likely the next deal gets a tier 1 and 2 plus the champ game separate. Is it possible they get all without outside bidders? Yes but not likely. If they accept the idea, it is possible the go ahead n lock in for example .. the champ game on ABC and a tier one deal which they can play big part in defining. (example) larger tier one and smaller tier 2.

We know CBS loves our content. NBC wanted the AAC too. I think we can finally get multiple bidders. No idea what that means for $$$. I still think we max out around $6 million.

Not a dime less than $24.6 Mil per school (except WSU who gets $24.60).

You could be right NIGHTTIME $$$6 million ea. is probably the figure this league lands.

With today's much improved AAC resume however I think Mike Aresco finally finds himself in the right side of the negotiations table.

Not sure if you notice while the game was going on but CBS cameras were able to catch Mike Aresco all smiles.

I'm sticking with my probable future tv figures... $$$8 million ea.
