Pardon me, but thoughts on Louisiana's at-large possibility?
Fantastic season for the Cajuns. Classic nickname by the way.
Okay, the standard scenario of winning out through the Sun Belt Semifinals and a loss in the Championship Game. That would be 29-5, with a good current BPI and RPI rating. SOS is obviously a bit low, and the Saragin, but what are your thoughts? Obviously I hope they would get in over the 8th Big 12 or 5th Pac 12 teams, etc.
Again, congrats on a fabulous season thus far.

Im leaning to a 5% chance, only because I never say never. you pointed out we have a acceptable RPI and BPI for admittance, but we gave the committee the out they are looking for with zero top 50 wins and a SOS that is awful. so I believe we need to win the tournament to go dancing.

They'll probably get the autobid because they've been destroying everyone. I don't think they have any shot at an at-large

I’m in this thought as well. They will prolly screw them over if they don’t win in New Orleans for a high major that is like 19-12 or something. This has always been my heart burn come this time of year. Winning should mean something. And I hate that the regular season becomes meaningless so to speak.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Cajuns lose to either Georgia State or Troy in the tournament.
Georgia State is the only team to have beaten the Cajuns, and Troy is the only other team to have put up a fight against them thus far.

The non-conference does them no favorite and the Sun Belt very few favors.

Don't see any way. Their RPI will drop with 2 wins this weekend against the Arkansas Teams who are both over 300. Any loss in the tournament will kill their RPI. No quality wins. I really think they are good enough to get an at-large bid, but they won't.

There is no sane Louisiana fan who thinks we would get an at large short of the NCAA issuing allegations against the big boys who have been knowingly either buying players or playing players bought by others and delivered to them.
That would open at least 20 spots and make it hard to keep out a Louisiana or MTSU or NMSU who lost in the conference tournament finals.
Of course, we all know the chances of the NCAA ever doing that, especially not the month before the Dance.

Less than a 3% chance if they don't win it all.

The SBC schools should schedule nothing but Big XII, ACC and Big East schools for our non conference games. If you win, it's huge, if not then who cares, you win the conference tourney you're in.

If every school in the conference played just 4 top tier ACC, AAC, Big East, Big 10 or Big 12 teams, and 8 mid level or higher teams from non power conferences, and went .500 OOC, we would be a multi bid conference within 5 years. Avoid scheduling teams who are perennially 200+ in RPI and schedule only mid majors who generally reside in the RPI range of 50-150 for those non power conference games.
Next thing you know, we have 5 teams in the conference with RPI from 25-100 and 5 more from 101-200, and our conference games actually help our RPI, or at least most would.

So, you want to turn us into the SWAC 2.0?

Would be nice to have improve scheduling but our coaches would never go for it. Wins against 200+ teams are still wins which look good on paper and helps the coach get promoted. Its at this point that we need strong AD's and a conference commissioner which we decidedly do not have in Benson.

I think when they lose to App in the championship game, that will kill any shot at an at-large bid.

I doubt the cajuns would get an invite if they dont win the auto bid. they look like a good enough team to me to warrant an invite but the selection committee is always biased towards the "name" teams. uta had 27 wins last year including a win over a #12 team and at ut-austin..only good for an NIT spot..the year before that when the mavs won 24 games and at ohio state and memphis..only good for NIT. we arent going to be 2 bid conference when half the teams have 300 RPI.

RE: Pardon me, but thoughts on Louisiana's at-large possibility?
There are 3-4 tiers of conferences in the NCAA for basketball. You have your major conferences which get 4-9 bids. Then you have your high mid-major which can get 2-4 bids and they consist of the AAC, Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Mountain West, and the West Coast. We are probably close to the top of the 3rd tier, but no one from the 3rd tier is getting at large bids unless they are 1 or 2 loss teams, but if they are that good, they are likely winning the conference tournament.

OT: but does anyone think the regular season champ should represent the conference in the NCAA and the tourney champ play in the NIT? Just sucks that the whole season is basically down to 3 games in the tourney. Why not just play the conference tournament and be done with it?

Did not the Ivy league only have a regular season until very recently? Of course the issue is the $ the tourney makes, and even if the money is not that great for the SB it is big for the Prig5 conferences and what they do we have to do to compete in recruiting.
The regular season could have some official value beyond seeding is one or some teams were eliminated and not allowed to be a part of the tourney. I would like that personally. It would put some value on the regular season. Maybe take the top 8 or 10 teams. I am not sure I would want to only take the regular season champ unless every one played everyone the exact same amount, otherwise certain teams would benefit from a weaker schedule.
