RE: Memphis basketball is dead as we know it.
Profile at this point is very similar to last several years.

Last year team was NIT caliber then collapsed down the stretch.
Prior year team nearly played way into NCAA, losing in the final of the AAC tourney.
2015 team needed a win or two in the AAC tourney to do the same- lost first game- Nichols got hurt.

This year's team has played way to possible post-season, with three straight road wins and a nice home win. Yes- three pointers have fallen...and therefor...wins. Will take it even recognizing shots may not fall.

All teams were not NCAA caliber and were close to NIT.

Yes- need NCAA back. Soon. But for the season to date, NIT would be satisfying (not to mean program satisfying).

Players wonder about this too:

Will the coach give me the minutes that were promised? (His recruiting of me was suspect.)

Will the coach play the style of BB that I want?

Will he sign other good players so that my talents can excel?

Will he throw me under the bus...and say I need psychological counseling?

A few thoughts
1. Tubby recruited some pretty good players at Kentucky. Of course, those fans showed up at all the games at UK, even when they did not have stellar seasons. So, he did not have the fans sabotaging the program like what is going on at Memphis.
2. Texas Tech is doing pretty good with the players Tubby recruited. They have been in the TOP 10 this year.
3. Actually, looking at this Memphis team and what we have coming back next year...he may just be considered a recruiting genius in 2019....kind of like Coach Norvell. Let's see what the critics think about his recruiting in 2018-19 when, heaven forbid...we just may win the AAC Championship.

I agree with you that the Memphis Grizzlies are a decade away from being relevant if ever. I will be surprised if they are still in Memphis in 5 years and it will not bother me at all.

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if Seattle steals the team. The buyout is high but manageable at $80M in 2021, and I don't think the local ownership would be able to find the capital to make a competitive bid.

It lines up with Seattle's time table as well.

Not gonna happen. NBA will expand and Seattle will get its team. Windhorst admitted he had no idea what the terms of the lease were when he spouted off about the Grizz maybe being in danger of moving.

All you Grizz-haters are showing your true colors and they're petty.

This team isn't leaving.

This. And why would anyone hate the Grizz? Our only shot at a pro team, we should all support them.

I have seen significant improvement in the "team" play when Martin is out injured. We appear to have developed the ability to hit 3's at a much better clip than earlier in the season. Now, will this continue, I can't begin to guess.

The team took the foot off the gas today with a 23 point lead and it almost came back to bite them in the butt. Inexperience contributed to the difficulties they had when UConn made their run to close the gap.

With most of the team back next year (no one transfers), they could be a decent team, but not a conference killer by any means. They could be competitive and entertaining. Only time will tell.

2 games of good 3 pt shooting is not even a trend. When decent someone guards us it will nosedive. Anyone who thinks we are a better team without Martin at the 2 is very misguided. Tubby has not given proper playing time to guys who by all appearances have proved they deserve it. Brewton at 1. Thornton at 3. Johnson looked great today because he hit his shots but his minutes had to be cut back. Rhodes is also coming on. We needed toughness and Rhodes, Thoruton and Enoh bring that. But we don’t have Martin at the two and that limits us in many areas.

UConn did not have the depth to press us. The next good team that puts their heart in it will cause major problems. Many good teams don’t press much because they are playing for seeding and postseason. It’s hard to press a 2cd round team in Tourney.

And as you say, if everyone returns (always doubtful these days) we could be a decent team and without a top 50 recruit no freshman should get a lot of PT. So we would be a possible bubble team or NIT team.

Sorry, but you are a complete idiot. Everything you said was just so damn stupid. Seriously?

It would sound stupid to someone who doesn’t know the game.
