Depends on what your end goal is...
Do we want the additional win for our NIT resume or do we dream of winning the tourney?
Win the tourney. 5 seed would get ECU or USF. I can't see either one of those helping our NIT resume. The loss against ECU probably kills it anyway. Need to win out regular season first though.

Win the tourney! Make some noise. Steal some 2018 recruits after the nuclear fallout of the FBI...

Totally disagree-we need to avoid Cincy until Championship game (and hope they get upset before then) as Tulsa is playing them a 8 pt game at their place. We lost by 34 @ Cincy and by 14 recently at home.
Feel free to disagree all you want, I’d rather play Tulsa in second game over Houston. All day everyday for eight days week. Houston is better than Tulsa. If you want our Tigers to make it to the semifinals, going through Houston isn’t the way to do it.
Common sense IMO but some folks will disagree. Tulsa-Cincy is a better route than Houston-Wichita St
Depends on whether you want to win the tournament or get to semis. Guess Tubby’s gang want the possible extra win for possible NIT consideration.
WHEN TIGERS WANT TO GET TO SEMIS RATHER THAN PLAY A LITTLE TOUGHER TEAM (who could get upset) AND WIN THE WHOLE THING, SOMETHING IS BAD WRONG.
It’s a tournament
Common sense dictates you want the easier game early to go far. When we run into Cincinnati or Wichita, we may get killed. But we have to get there.
Also SMU is on Cincy’s side of the bracket. If Shake comes back, SMU could potentially upset Cincy.

yup. It's called mediocrity.
Expectations get lowered so mediocrity can creep in.

What he’s espousing is BS. It’s called common sense. You want the easier route in any tournament cuz at the end of the day all that matters is who went the farthest and not the route that took them there.

Agree. Anything to avoid cincinnati. I think we could beat anybody else (not favored or likely but could). Cinci is a bad matchup. Our athletic/size advantage we have over most teams in AAC seems negated by their players.

So...this potential route is preferable?
Houston > Wichita St (who destroyed us as well btw) > Cincy
rather than
Tulsa > Cincy > Wichita St
IMO Cincy and Wichita St are interchangeable. Both teams smoked us and Wichita St just beat Cincy on the road. They are both equally dangerous, so IMO it doesn't matter if we play either team first. What matters is the QF game. The likelihood of us getting by Tulsa is better so we can then have a shot at the 2 best teams in the conference.

IMO, WSU is more winnable....for us anyway.

That's fair but I would rather take on Tulsa instead of Houston in QF and take my chances in the semis with either Cincy or Wichita St. Heck, Wichita St could beat Cincy in the final regular season game and we would instead play them in the Semis.

We have less information now than we will have after the end of the season. Teams could have a player or two missing by then. lol

RE: It looks like we’re going to get the 5 seed
Ideally, here is the best scenario.
Falling to a #6 seed seems to be the best option for us assuming Wichita State beats Cincinnati at home and claims the #1 seed. If we are the #5 seed we would play Wichita State or the #1 seed right away after Tulsa. The #1 seed is going to have a very easy 2nd round match with very little chance of an upset.
The reason why I like the #6 seed better is that by avoiding the #1 seed you at least have a shot at a team like Temple upsetting Cincinnati or Wichita State before we get to them. We will still have to pay the piper at some point, but avoiding the #1 seed gives us the best chance at reaching the final, which would probably get us into the NIT.

We’re playing really good now. What if we were the one who pulled the upset ?
It’s just such a delightful thought. I can’t help it.

Lol. I thought the same thing. It kinda feels like a foregone conclusion that WSU or Cincy would beat the Tigers. But....ya never know! I think we're becoming a team that others have to be wary of.
