Have the Women turned the corner?
UC WBB is 9-6 and 17-11

Tied with UH for the 4 seed.

Play UH in Cincy with winner getting #4 seed

Of course we all know the Tourney is just a practice for UConn's run to the finals.

Those results do show improvement. Glad to see it. The Women's team has been really bad for quite a few years. Too bad Uconn's team will win the AAC tourney keeping another team from winning the auto bid when the HUskies don't need one any way.

So much for playing at St. Ursula being bad for the team.

Given the title and the OP, I was fairly certain that this would be a post about a woman's place in the home. Color me pleasantly surprised.

Surprised the UCONN women haven't made an attempt to get out of the aac. Does anybody in the league give them any competition?

Very few teams in any league give them much competition.

Most game are 30-50 point wins.

Closest was 9 over ND and in the AAC 18 over Tulsa.

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
Not a women's hoops fan. Having said that, I'd be happy if they could get good and get ranked. Its still publicity for the school and if you notice, many Power conference schools have good women's programs too so it creates a 'well rounded' appearance for UC if they can be good. Same for things like volleyball, soccer, etc.

Wish them the best. Go Cats!

There just aren’t the same number of elite women players as there are on the men’s side. That select group is only going to a few shools

Kudos to the women. I went to a couple games. The high school environment was a much better - and convenient - venue to watch the women play than Shoemaker.

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
So the women won vs Houston in the season finale and ended the regular season 18-11 (10-6).

Is this good enough for the ncaa or do they need to win a few in the AAC tourney or are they basically NIT bound no matter what?

I just don't follow women's hoops. Does anybody know?

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
I just checked the standings...they finished 4th.

UCONN 29-0
USF 24-6
UCF 20-9
UC 18-11
UH 20-10

Not bad top of the conference at all. Not sure how many bids this is.

Great year, hopefully something they can build on.

As for post-season, they have an RPI of 118. I doubt that gets them into anything short of winning the conference tournament, which obviously isn't going to happen (of course I'd love to eat those words).

UC beat UH 61-57 to get 4th.
UConn of course will win tourney and get automatic bid. I watched about 5 minutes the other day of UConn just ***** slapping #2 USF.
USF likely gets a bid.

Is there a women's NIT? Or CBIT?

Nice to see some success because if UC is on the uniform might as well win.

Women’s NIT field is 64 teams, WNIT has an automatic Bid for highest team not taken by NCAA, so there is a chance. American should get 2 teams in, that scenario leaves UCF with automatic bid, then UC

There is also the 16 team WBI

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
My daughter has been to about half of the women's home games. Last night, she said the women almost lost, but fortunately didn't quite pull it off.

I went to one game, I think it was against East Carolina (UC lost in overtime), and I thought the talent was OK, but I could not figure out what the coaching was trying to do at all. Every time I thought there was a potentially good player on the floor, they would hit the bench and not come back in.

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
Its been a great year for the team by recent standards. IMHO, a big part of this was due to former assistant coach Kia Damon who brought in Shanice Johnson (JUCO Player a couple years ago) and two Top 100 recruits. Johnson has led the team in most categories the past two years. She'll be a big loss for the team.

Damon is now the HC at Lafeyette. It will need to play out in the next couple of years, but I think she was a big loss for the program. She was only here for a year, but as I noted was a good recruiter and coach.

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
When UConn has the top spot before the season even begins, 4th is a pretty good finish in the conference.

RE: Have the Women turned the corner?
UC WBB - good news is UC is in the semi final, the bad news is they play UConn who beat them this year 106-65

Expect another blood bath unless the entire team gets food poisoning in which case UConn by 20.
