I want to be the top team too. Both those teams have three really good seniors. Their best players. Maybe that’s the difference. I don’t know. I do that think that's a big deal at the mid conference level though. both those teams have awesome grad transfers. Ours blew his knee out.

I get your point, but the whole mindset around our program really concerns me. So let's say next year is the year. WKU and MTSU take a step back and we have solid seniors in Caver, BJ, and, Porter and step up and win the conference and make the tournament. We are 6 years in at that point, and all the patient people around this program reset the clock and defend JJ with 20+ win seasons and that 2019 trip to the tournament as we fail to make the tournament for the next 5 seasons. We are 11 seasons in with 1 NCAA tournament appearance at that point. That is the way I realistically see this playing out. I am very concerned that we are well on our way to an entire lost decade because JJ continues to do just enough to hang on.

Oh c'mon. Awesome grad transfer! What, 3 pts and 2 rbs a game! Seriously.

In case u haven’t noticed Thompson and Coleby are really freaking good grad transfers for WKU. Nick King is the best player in the league, also a grad transfer for MT. Yeah sometimes u need some luck, or maybe $$ in this case. Who knows.

Monarchblue, do you really think if we win it all next year it'll take six years for us to get back to that level with the recruiting classes JJ has landed recently?

I know I'm not in the eternally pessimistic camp, but JJ has done a pretty decent job with the talent he has had here. He finally got back to a point where he could recruit quality players. He landed arguably the best two recruiting classes back to back at ODU in the last 20 years. Obviously, these recruits need to play up to their potential, but the future looks pretty doggone good. Anyone thinking it's going to be 6 years between each NCAA run wants to be right about JJ more than they want to be honest about the state of the program.

Yes, work like heck to get out of this conference. I agree 100% on upgrading the schedule. But it needs to be done more locally, maybe at Maryland or in the northeast where travel is not a huge issue and then we expand our footprint there to help us getting in another conference someday, hopefully soon. Besides, it's going to be tough to recruit in the far west without a decent tv contract. It seems like the last several years our coaching staff has expanded our recruiting trail to cover the entire country. We picked up Reece for next season. He looks like a great addition. And our coaching staff has been doing pretty well the past two years on the recruiting trail. I think we have turned the corner in that area. Are we all there yet? No, but we have definitely seen improvements on the Jeff Jones recruiting front these past two cycles. And this recruiting season is not done.

The whole mindset around the program bothers you? Please elaborate. For that statement to have any validity at all, you would have had to talk to people at the top of the program -- and name them here -- and they would have had to tell you that they are satisfied winning 20+ games a year with no NCAA appearances. IF you can tell me that's the case, then, yes, fire them after the year, unless they make the NCAAs. But if you make that point because what a few people on this board write, I'm sorry, it's meaningless.

They allegedly bought Thompson's old man a truck, something MTSU refused to do when the player contacted them. JJ allegedly talked to UVA about the player and they said to stay away.

RE: 22-6.........or why numbers are deceiving
College basketball is a dirty game. It's really dirty at the highest levels, but it's dirty at every level.

Here's a story: A number of years back, we were recruiting a kid from an AAU program. The coach of the AAU program told Blaine that if he wanted this player, he would "really appreciate" if Blaine made a donation to the "nonprofit" the AAU coach had started to "help disadvantaged youth." Blaine told him, in no uncertain terms and with not particularly clean language, that he doesn't play that game. The AAU coach responded that it was a shame, because another team in our league really liked his player, too, and he felt like there wasn't much he could do, at that point, to recommend to his player to come to ODU.

Thankfully, Blaine was able to recruit the kid through his high school coach and after Blaine was able to talk to the kid's mother (who had no idea the AAU coach was pimping the player), the kid ended up coming here and having a decent career.

I'm saying allegedly because I have nothing but anecdotal "proof." But I have heard the NCAA is already investigating Stansbury.

Why is it we have to wait for other teams best players to graduate before we can actually beat them? How about we recruit players good enough to beat them when they’re there? Crazy I know...

I wonder if all of this grad transfer success is changing people's minds about only wanting freshman. We need a big man grad transfer for next year.

50-50 for an at large?????? Not a freaking chance.

Mid majors have to have extremely impressive resumes and quality wins to get at large bids. We have neither.

Zero.zero for an at large whether we won or lost that game. Not even in the discussion.
You need to read the post. You jump to way to many conclusions without reading or comprehending the post. It said if we had beaten WKU, won out and lost in the finals of CUSA Tournament we would have had a 50/50 chance of at large.

Global board warning.

Leave the insults at the door. It's getting a bit toxic around here. Losses will do that and we keep a really really long leash on here so don't abuse it please.

Edit: If you want to discuss this PM us. No further will be discussed on this topic in the public. Thank you.

My humble opinion: even in that scenario, we don't get an at large. Our SoS is actually garbage. WKU would be our only good win, because as a 2 or 3 seed we'd be facing MT in the final. So we would have one Top 100 win and no Top 50 wins. That is definitely not good enough for an at large.

We'd likely have to beat WKU in the tournament also, to make the finals.

Yep, but we already knew that in June when the schedule came out. No news here.

50/50 may be a bit high, but I would guess the chances would be over 33%.
