Great post Razor. I predicted before the season started we would win 23 games and not make the NCAA tournament, and Jones would be back for another term. He can't win a big game, and while many people are happy with 23+ wins and an NIT bid, I'm not. Get ODU back to the NCAA's or find a coach who can take us there. I'm sick and tired of mediocrity and excuses.

Great line! can I use it?

You're actually trying to give him credit for that? Lol

I believe said fan lives in North Carolina now. There's at least two perennial top 25 programs he can now root for without having to complain about the coach year in year out.

ODU is where UNCW would be right now if it hired Keatts. One good run and done.

ODU is a mid-major. Any up and coming, hotshot, charismatic, media darling young coach would be a flight risk if hired and there goes our million dollar investment.

VCU went from famous to "also ran".

It will take an absolute catastrophic event for Jones to be fired.

Selig made made a good selection.

So instead of being an "Also ran" we are a "never-were" under jones.

Awesome, that's SOOOOOO much better.

Jesus some of our "fans" are a joke.

After our loss... we are down to 26% chance of making the NCAA tournament. We are over a 90% of acheiving a 3 seed. Looking at the numbers had we beat WKU and then got to the finals of the CUSA tournament we likely would have been 50-50for an at large bid.

50-50 for an at large?????? Not a freaking chance.

Mid majors have to have extremely impressive resumes and quality wins to get at large bids. We have neither.

Zero.zero for an at large whether we won or lost that game. Not even in the discussion.

RE: 22-6.........or why numbers are deceiving
I see what you are trying to do Razor, and you are right. This record looks like a really good record, because it is a really good record. The problem is we don't seem to be able to beat anyone above us in the conference. We can't steal one at home. However, I will give this team credit that we didn't drop a random game to an opponent we have no business losing to. Neither MT nor WKU can say that.

I think the problem that you fail to see every time is, the majority of us are pretty hardcore fans. Most ODU fans are not on message boards 365 days of the year. Yet here we are. And most of us realize we haven't beaten anyone good. You are preaching to the choir, save for a handful. And the general masses, aka soccer man and his wife, will come to ODU games because they see a good record and will think this team is good. Which brings me to my last point:

This team IS good. They are very fun to watch. Is that not the point of going to the games for most people? The majority of people? The ones who we need to buy tickets to keep the cash flow coming? They will always get the season ticket holders of the die hard fans on message boards such as ourselves. The trick is to fill the corners. When will we fill the corners? A good start is by having a 25+ win season or two. That helps bring in the support.

So sadly to say for you, JJ is doing his job. He is winning a lot of games. It's not the highest standard that those of us here on message boards have, but it will be good enough for the masses, and therefore good enough for Selig. So I appreciate your rant and I appreciate having a space to give my own, but in the end, it doesn't really matter.

In conclusion: I really hope we can win 3 in a row in Frisco. But I don't feel very good about it.

PS - we have a 0% chance of getting an at-large bid.

They take their best players with them when they do this. Bobby Hurley took Shannon Evans, Keatts took CJ Bryce, Rhoades (BUM) took Evans. Rhoades didn't earn that job so I shouldn't put him in the mix. Guy is a terrible coach.

RE: 22-6.........or why numbers are deceiving
Interesting thread to me. *(Not the nasty or insult parts but the ideas presented)* Look at the numbers to evaluate Jones. Okay here I go. We lost to MTSU and WKU which are better than we are and gave us 3 losses. MTSU was building to a great year and then landed a ringer, Nick King, that pushed them to the top of the conference. (At least in this old fans opinion, King is the CUSA-POY) Stansbury did an "unbelievable" wink, wink recruiting job and has the number 2 team. I mean he only has one player back from last year. That is amazing! I still talk with 3 college level b-ball coaches occasionally and all 3 say Stansbury is cheating (btw 2 are retired so maybe they don't know). We shall see but for now it is what it is and WKU is #2. This year in the CUSA we have beaten the teams we should and lost to the 2 best, 3 times. Alas this last beat down was really bad but no excuses we got killed. I would say this happens over a 30 game season but maybe it doesn't and I should rethink it. We lost to W&M but that was a fluke (a 1/2 court shot on a bad night for us) and VCU but early in the season and on their court. W&M we would have beaten here or on another night but we should have won. I really believe this year we would have beaten VCU here or later in the season. Temple I did not see and cannot comment on. I would also suggest we keep in mind we lost Talley (drug testing) Kah and McClinton to injuries. I do not put those 3 player losses on Jones but I know some of you do. In any case, to me they would have given us more depth, more length, more options and helped with the fatigue issue. So 22 - 6 (hopefully 24 - 6) and fire Coach Jones? I say no and give him another year. (Full disclosure I have been fired as a HS coach so I tend to look at this issue with a different set of eyes.) If we drop the last 2 regular season games or crap the bed in the tournament I reserve the right to reconsider. Finally, for those of you who keep beating up on Wood S. and President Broderick for keeping Jones please ask around. You are missing the boat here, Jones has not had his contract reupped or renewed. There is a reason for that. As some have noted on here if you want to donate a few hundred thousand bucks for several years (don't forget the new coach will be paid for more than one year and ODU will need the money every year to honor a new contract) give them a call you might be surprised. Now back to your regularly scheduled discourse. 07-coffee3

This thread is a joke, btw. I don’t need a “fan” telling me our record is good but the schedule sucks. If you’re on this message board you should know this already. I was just making a joke towards Razor in the previous post. People need to lighten up. No need to piss vinegar after every loss. All six losses with the same narrative about how one person sucks. It’s tired. I’m not even a fan of JJs, but I also understand the dynamics of team sports. I think back to Anthony Grant at VCU. He wasn’t a better coach than BT that year they beat us in the semifinal. He just had Eric Maynor, best player in the league. It’s the same thing here. It’s a players game. WKU and MT just have better players than us right now. Just cause we aren’t the best team in the league doesn’t mean our program is in bad shape. My feelings toward the team haven’t changed. We were the 3rd best team in this league a week ago and we still are. Give some props to the top 2 teams. They are both Very Good. If there wasn’t such a P5 bias, both would be in the NCAA easily.

What would you do to strengthen the schedule, given ACC schools won't schedule us H/H? What about slipping an OOC game in against New Mexico State, SMU, LSU, or Houston on a Monday night while we are going to UTEP, UNT, LT, or Rice anyway?

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

Really? You want us to stay out west for 5 or 6 straight days during the conference part of our schedule? It's hard enough on these kids to play 2 games in three days plus all the travel. It's not like we stay in one town the entire time. Think about the trip we just took. It's a 5 hour bus ride to Bowling Green from Huntington ( that's 5 hours after playing a grueling game). What college team in the world would ever consider stacking a game onto that trip? And I am sure the Texas trip would be even worse. That makes no sesnse. On top of that, who would want to even play us during their conference schedule?

+1. I was always taught that rather than complain about a problem or issue one should offer constructive alternatives. Just my 2 cents worth on this subject. Go Monarchs!

So, we should hire mediocre coaches so nobody wants to hire them? Sound logic.

Also, we likely would not be where UNCW is because our board of visitors would not have forced us to hire Roy Williams's crappy assistant that nobody wanted as a replacement.

I want to be the top team too. Both those teams have three really good seniors. Their best players. Maybe that’s the difference. I don’t know. I do that think that's a big deal at the mid conference level though. both those teams have awesome grad transfers. Ours blew his knee out.
