Imo, this is the biggest non-athletic accomplishment for an AAC school in some time.

That said, maybe this will finally lead to contact (or at least a new "wow" signal). I can just see it now:

DATELINE, January 1st, 2019: The Zeta Reticulan race (otherwise known as "The Greys") disclose their presence to the world on the one year anniversary of UCF's national title in football. The Greys choose this date, because, they finally felt welcome on Earth after the Knights saved the Arecibo telescope.

In addition, the Greys, as well as the rest of the Galactic Federation, award the universal football title to the Knights before incinerating the campuses of USF, UF, and Alabama.

UCF takes over control of telescope; saves it from shutting down
