CUSA takes the East Teams and Sun Belt takes the West Teams.

CUSA = ODU / Marshall / Charlotte / WKY / MTSU / UAB / FIU / FAU / App St / Coastal / GA Southern / Georgia State / Troy / S Alabama

Sun Belt = LA Tech / North TX / Rice / Southern Miss / UTSA / UTEP / Ark State / Little Rock / Louisiana / TX State / UL Monroe / UT Arlington

Those would be 2 pretty solid conferences with great regional rivalries.

Two CUSA divisions for football:
North- ODU, Marshall, App St, Charlotte, WKU, MTSU, Coastal
South: FIU, FAU, GSU, GaSo, Troy, USA, UAB

Good Basketball: ODU, Marshall, WKU, MTSU, UAB, GSU, USA
Potentially Good basketball: Charlotte, Troy
Bad Basketball: FIU, FAU, GaSo, App st, Coastal

I'd be ok with the football, though we would lose some more highly recognized teams like LaTech, So Miss, Rice. Basketball would still have a great top half and lousy bottom.

It also seems more likely that CUSA would keep the FUs, while USA, Troy and maybe UAB would go to the other conference. That would not be so bad for football, but would make basketball much worse.

Yes - CUSA would keep the 2 FL schools and the 3 Alabama schools. The Sun Belt would be made up of teams from TX, LA, MS, and AR. A pretty good regional fit for both and I'd say very doable. Would benefit both conferences significantly.

CUSA needs to move the conference headquarters East. Sunbelt is already in New Orleans.

Charlotte or Atlanta would be good for the Conference Basketball Tournament. Damn I wish these AD's would get together and use their heads for a change. It would benefit all schools involved.

I'm not interested in any more 14 team conferences for 1 bid. No thanks.

Rumors about the MWC expanding are swirling. If any of the Texas schools were included, it might be the impetus to a positive change in CUSA (for ODU). And it could shift the power structure to the east.

Sounds like they are, wisely, putting their eggs in the basketball basket, as such, I would not expect them to be too interested in any of CUSA's TX teams. Maybe UTEP could make a case.

Interesting. I'd think that Gonzaga could do better than the Mountain West if they're unhappy with the WCC (I also think the writer's implication that BYU might come with is pretty dodgy, since it seems unlikely that they'd ever return to the MWC while Utah is in the Pac-12 — that's a hell of an optics hit).

Honestly, they should join the Big East. Yeah, it's a hell of a travel ask but at the same time, any conference they join is going to mean a big upswing in travel anyway (and it's not like the WCC is a bus league). The Big East offers superior basketball and a much better TV contract.

That would be terrific if they poached all 4 Texas schools, so long as CUSA held at 10. Not that I have anything personal against those schools, but it would shrink the footprint, increase the allocation, decrease travel costs, and you can still hold a conference championship game with 10.

Main downside I see to that is it puts them in a position to scramble if the AAC takes a team or two down the line, or even destabilizes the conference entirely if other schools take it as a cue to move on to something more sturdy like the MAC or try their hand at football independence.

If LaSalle left for the MAAC, ODU would be a shoe in for the A10. Granted only a response or two, but positive for ODU in the A10. It's in this last page of this thread and advance warning, the A10 could be raided again by the Big East.

Football independence can pay for itself with an additional buy game to make up for lost revenue.
