We have a winner!
Careful bcs, you'll be accused of attacking our program by some nag.
So hard for some on this board just open their eyes.
My eyes have been open a long time. My mom taught one of the required courses to Memphis athletes at the college---back when the curriculum was more difficult.
She was the first I ever heard say we should pay the players, and that was a long time ago.
Then why the fake outrage that we are discussing that Penny and Derrick and Tyreke got paid?
We aren't discussing it.

Answer that question or don't. shrug. Tell me to shut the eff up or go away.
That works swell.
I think we’ve been shady in the past. I think pretty much everyone else has been too. What’s shocking is a guy like Sean Miller is caught doing the dirty work. I doubt Cal would be dumb enough to do it, but you never know.
I don’t think anyone is bashing Memphis. And I have no proof. It’s just the behind the scenes reality that goes on with college sports. It’s been going on since the beginning, even before they produced the revenue they do today. A coach wanting to keep his job might certainly slip a guy a few bucks to improve his team.

With this one particular recruit, they seem to have less issues with Tubby than the fans/media.
It’s a f’ed up dynamic here.
In the recent past, Tiger fans supported the Tigers very well because we were relevant or had solid reason to hope for near term relevancy and our coaches were relentless promoters. It is Tubby’s well paid job to win more games like last night and perform effective PR and thus draw more crowds.
Not saying it isn’t his job. Just saying a recruit’s coach and father have mentioned lack of fan/media support as an issue.
Because they point to that reason doesn’t make it true. It might be to keep the heat off them personally . You can never know what’s going on in their minds.
The only thing we do know is Tubby came here with the baggage that he can’t/won’t recruit. What were the reasons given in colleges other than Memphis?
Just trying to keep the score card rules straight...we don't believe the recruits & their families when they say media & fan support is an issue but we do believe them when they say they haven't been recruited hard enough?
We must protect and preserve the narrative at all costs.

It’s usually an assistant working with a booster or agency runner allegedly, but now we know that shoe companies pony up as well.
And in Memphis, being it’s such a small pond, I would imagine that the boosters have occasionally bypasses the middleman and gone straight to the handler.

I remember Arizona landing Derrick Williams over us. Wonder what happened there??

Don't worry. We did. Have someone tell you about Finch's car or Bedford's MANY cars that he was driving around campus.

Most of the time, it's not done by a booster anymore.
It's done through a school's shoe affiliation.
The shoe companies know what the competitive payouts are for a given player.
These discussions rarely take place with a head coach or a recruiting staff member.
Someone else is a designated relater of info.
