Their motto? "What we did for Enron, we can do for the University of Memphis."
Of all the types of fan on message boards, maybe the strangest are the ones who, despite having no access to any of the records, think they know accounting better than the accountants who work for and at the school. You know, the ones who swear at risk of forfeiture of their licenses that the numbers are true and accurate.
I know common sense better.
2014
- Ranked all but 2 weeks of the regular season
- Coming off of 3 seasons making the tournament with 1 win
- Home games against Louisville, Gonzaga, Cincinnati, UConn, SMU
16,121 reported attendance per game
290,183 reported attendance total
2017
9,622 reported attendance per game
173,208 reported attendance total
- 116,975 more tickets sold in 2014
- 67.5% MORE tickets sold in 2014
- Ticket revenue and donations supposedly only 25% higher in 2014
Quote:Under Smith, however, overall men’s basketball revenue rose for the first time since 2013. It was due to an increase in distributions from the NCAA, in part from hosting the 2017 NCAA tournament South regional at FedExForum, as well as money generated by parking sales.
Now we are getting somewhere. The South Regional with North Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA and Butler competing and parking sales count toward 2017 Memphis Tiger basketball revenues?
NCAA distributions for basketball for 2017 were more than they were for 2014? The contract hasn't changed, how is that possible? Plus we actually played in the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 NCAA Tournaments. Don't we get some money from that? Mind boggling.
2014 NCAA Tournament
- 4 Bids, Memphis, UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati
- Record 9-3
- UConn - National champion
- Louisville - Sweet 16
- Memphis - Round of 32
- Cincinnati - Round of 64
2017 NCAA Tournament
- 2 Bids, SMU, Cincinnati
- Record 1-2
- Cincinnati - Round of 32
- SMU - Round of 64
Why do revenues from hosting the South Regional get credited to Memphis basketball, but revenues for hosting the Southern Heritage Classic and Liberty Bowl not get credited to Memphis football? Did Memphis basketball get credited for revenues from ticket sales and parking in 2014 when we hosted the AAC Tournament?
Anyway, anyone who believes that ticket revenue and donations in 2014, coming off of 3 NCAA appearances, ranked the entire season, with marquee home games against Louisville, UConn, Gonzaga, Cincinnati and SMU were only 25% higher than 2017 is an idiot.
No coincidence that the only ones fighting tooth and nail are the usual handful of Tubby sheeples.
