Thoughts from USA game
Really wish we could've pulled this one out, would have been big for hosting or national seed later on. However, this is equivalent to going 2-1 with state and beating USA. We still have a great start going. I don't know if this team can win 50 games again, but I think we have a really good shot of hosting or even a national seed if we get our relief pitching in order. Montenegro just gets on base, he's not flashy but a consistent player, and only a freshman! Luke Reynolds is incredible, had several hits and 2 homers. Walker Powell did very well. I think Colt Smith will help when he comes back. All that being said, if we want to have a really great team this year we cant lose games like this weekend. Hopefully we steamroll folks and if we start struggling with those teams, then we can worry. As of now, we still are a GREAT team and I really think we can take this thing to Omaha. 8 more road games.

Relief pitching especially is going to have to improve if we want to get to Omaha.

Bats went quiet when our pitching went south.

Several times last year, when our pitching wasn't what it needed to be, our bats kept us in games.

When both fail at the same time, you get what happened last night.

RE: Thoughts from USA game
the only thing I see is Wallner is 'trying to hard' and is swatting at flies due to that.....

and that Reynolds cat is something else....

we used a number of arms that needed to see action for future evaluation.....

my only concern was I saw too many fastballs w/o movement that were too easy to put in play....

personally, I would've put Wallner in at the start of the 8th......however, I understand why Berry didn't.....

it's a long season boys......
