Don't get me started on the M1 prices these days. $200 rifles going for $2k. Insanity!
Supply and demand. Mausers and Mosin Nagants will be the same way one day.
They already are. 98k Cold War Eastern Europe knockoffs are selling for $500+ and Nagants are up to $150+ (Outrageous for a gun that you could buy for $15 a decade ago). The Garand "shortage" is artificial. There are hundreds of thousands collecting dust because all the WWII nostalgia movies and TV shows since Saving Private Ryan has convinced everyone they needed to buy one and park it on their shelves as rather dubious collectors items.

But pistol grips make liberals angry, so they have some value.
You know I've never shot a shotgun with pistol grips. I may build a shot gun with some.

Not to mention all the ones South Korean has in storage and has been begging for clearance to get the Army's CMP to sell in the US for years.
But there may be hope

I don't see what's "artificial" about that. Whether it be a movie or whatever else, the demand is very much real.
I wouldn't call Eastern European versions of the 98k "knockoffs", either. They are what they are (authentic rifles), and you don't have to pay the 98k premium. A lot of them came from when Germans invaded those countries, set up shop, and had them made on their machines.
I got a vz24 a few years ago for $200. I knew it was a great buy back then.
