Unfortunately, the Tubman is here for another year. What would be really funny if Penny ended up at KY or Ole Miss.. We would be the laughing stock of basketball!!

How would we be a laughingstock for not hiring a rookie coach for HC?

If he goes to UK, it's as an assistant. If he's willing to pay his dues at UK and not at Memphis, then frankly, why are we giving him preferential treatment?

If he goes to Ole Miss as a HC, he gets the requisite experience and if he's good, we wait for the Tubby situation to play out and bring him home. We do still outrank the Rebs at something culturally and it's hoops.

If we hire Penny this year or in the future, I will get behind him and support fully, both for love of program and respect to our greatest living Memphis player.

But to suggest not hiring him will make us a laughingstock is a huge stretch IMHO.

We're ahead of the curve it seems for being the laughing stock....After losing to Kansas 2008 Championship (embarrassing) being up by 7 l8;Then Cal meandering to UK (taking ALL of the recruiting class);POTENTIALLY losing Penny and recruits to either UK or Miss and having The Tubster cash checks and play golf, as IF he doesn't have accountability for the product on the court....DAYUM 03-banghead

When all is said and done, looking back on both circumstances, hiring Tubby will end up having been a worse result for Memphis than Cal having left for UK.

Unfortunately, the main thing that makes us is consistent. I think TIGERCITY is right on this one. We were a laughingstock with Pastner, but after 7 years of him and 2 with Tubby, all we are is an afterthought.
